|ṃamaḥ sarvajñāya||
[saṃgrahārthaṃ bodhisattva]ścakārāsau guṇaprabhaḥ|
sūtrāṇi vinayasyeyaṃ vṛttisteṣāṃ nigadyate||
tatredamādisūtram atha niryāṇavṛttam|| athetiśabdo'dhikārārtham| āsūtrasaṃdarbhaparisamāpterniryāṇavṛttamadhikṛtaṃ veditavyam| prāptiratrayānaṃ, na gamanam| niryāṇaṃ yāti niryāṇaṃ niryāti aneneti| tadyathā-grāmaṃ prāptaṃ i[tivat| niḥ-sabdo'punarāvartanakhyāpanārtham| apunarāvartakaṃ yānaṃ niryāṇa] miti śeṣaḥ| nirūpadhiśeṣanirvāṇaprāpteruktiḥ| tadvā apunarāvarttakaṃ yānam?| atha kimiti| niryānti taditi niryāṇamiti| anena śabdena sopadhiśeṣanirvāṇaprāptiḥ atroktā iti na gamyate| niryāti anena iti vā mārgo'bhihita iti [cet], 'yasmānna niḥśabdo upakramaṇārthamāgataḥ, [nāpi paryantārthaṃ| etadāśritya sopadhiśeṣanirvāṇo]ktiḥ|| saṃsāravṛttasyopakramabhūtaṃ ato yānaṃ niryāṇaṃ, paryantagamanaṃ saṃsāravṛttasya vā iti, sa ca nāśritaḥ| kiṃ tarhi apunarāvṛttyartho niḥśabdo'tra abhīṣṭaḥ| tena yadevāpunarāvarttakaṃ yānaṃ tasyaivānenoktiḥ, nānyasya| yataśca yāṃ samāpattikakṣā[māgamya vajropamāyā anantaraṃ sopadhiśeṣanirvāṇasaṃprāptiḥ]|| tatkakṣāto yad vyutthānena kakṣāntare gamanaṃ na sā na punarāvṛttiḥ| arhatvāditaḥ parihāṇiḥ sā antardhānameva|| mārgasya punaḥ prāptiratra yānam, na gamanamiti|| [tasmāt] gamanārthāsaṃśrayādapi niryāṇatvāprasaṅgaḥ|| niryāṇagāmivṛttaṃ niryāṇavṛttam|| vṛttaṃ punaratredaṃ dharmakāṇāṃ [mudrā| yadvṛttaṃ tadaśeṣataḥ vinayena proktaṃ veditavyam| tato'trapravra]jyā vibhaṅga-poṣadha-varṣaṃ- pravāraṇā-kaṭhina-cīvara-carma-bhaiṣajya-karma-pratikriyā-kālākālasaṃpāta-bhūmyantarasthacaraṇa-parikarma-karmabheda-cakrabheda-adhikaraṇa-śayanāsanavastu-ityanenānukrameṇa kṛtsnasya vinayavidheḥ saṃniveśanam| yasmāt ayamatra abhisaṃdhiḥ-nyā[yyā etena vidhinā pravrajyopasaṃpadoḥ upalabdhiḥ| 'eteṣāṃ ca evaṃvidhānāṃ] ceha saṃgrahaḥ, evaṃvidhāścātra varjyāḥ| ityasya pūrvaṃ vaktuṃ yogaḥ iti ādau pravrajyāvastunaḥ saṃniveśanam| śāsane praviṣṭasya anupete 'tra vṛtte śikṣāniḥ kṣepaṇādinā iyaṃ śikṣā| ityato'nantaraṃ vibhaṅgasya [saṃniveśanam]||
poṣadhavastvādīnāmapi imānyatra krama-kāraṇāni-paripoṣaṇaṃ yathā samāttāyā śi[kṣāyā kāle-kāle sūtramāśritya| tasmāt poṣadhāvastu abhihi] tam|| yasmin kāle ekatrāvasthānena arthasaṃpattiḥ tadavasthānagatau vidhiḥ ityato varṣavastu|| niyatavāsātmake varṣavāsānte dṛṣṭādibhiḥ tribhiḥ sthānaiḥ saṃghaṃ pravārayāmīti śuddhau satyāṃ utsargadānasya yujyamānatā ityato'nantaraṃ pravāraṇāvastu|| vyūhabandhaḥ kaścidasya varṣāvasātmano [niyatavāsa sya prati-kañcukabhūtaḥ vidyate| prasrabdhivihāritārthaṃ avalambanīyaḥ| asya anantaraṃ tasya kramaḥ iti kaṭhinavastu niveśitam|| pṛthaktatra nāpattau cīvaravibhāgasya yogaḥ iti apagatattvena tayoḥ vyūhabandhayo cīvaradānasya kālaḥ iti cīvaravidheḥ āśrayaṇam| cīvaraprabhedabhutaṃ jñānaṃ carmaṃ ityatonantaraṃ carmavastu [niveśitam]|| na vinā rogapratīkāreṇa eka(ḥ) pṛthagvā vihartu śakyata i[ti sahapratyā] sannābhyāṃ pūrvāparakālābhyāṃ pratha(ma)meva cīvaradānakāle prāyaśo glānyā pātasya bhāvaḥ| tadgato'smāt pratikriyāvidhiyuktarūpa iti bhaiṣajyavastu|| utpannotpanneṣu evaṃ viharatāṃ karaṇīyesu anuṣṭhānavidhiḥ, ityatonantaraṃ karmavastu|| udvṛttānāṃ praṇidhikarmārhādīnāṃ praṇidhikarmakaraṇādinā niyamanaṃ pratyāpādanaṃ ca avasāraṇādinā yuktamityataḥ pratikriyāvastu|| āpannasaṃghāvaśeṣasya ca kālākālasaṃpāta-bhūmyantarasthacaraṇavastunoḥ niyamanapratyāpādanārthaṃ saṃniveśanam| kauśāmbaka-pāṇdulohitaka-pudgalaparivāsikavastūni pratikriyāvastvādi nāmabhiḥ uktāni| saṃjñāntaraniveśanaprayojanaṃ tatraiva krame vakṣyāmaḥ|| niyamanādau anupatiṣṭhatāṃ paridamanaṃ yuktarūpamityataḥ parikarmavastu|| [poṣadha] sthāpanavastunaḥ etatsaṃjñāntaraṃ vakṣyamāṇārthaṃ dvaidhagateṣu vṛttamityetatkarmacakrabhedavastunī|| vyavahāragato vidhiḥ ato'nantaraṃ yujyate| ityasmādadhikaraṇavastu|| yatraitad sarvaṃ anyaśca kuśalapakṣo'nuṣṭhīyate sthāne, tadgato'smādvidhiḥ yukta iti śayanāsanavastu niveśitam|| kṣudrakādīnāṃ caitad-prabhedabhūtatvāt anatireka ebhyaḥ iti na pṛthaksūtraṇam|| yatra yasya yogaḥ tatastatraiva niveśitam| ācāryopādhyāhyānujñānāt [anantaraṃ] yaḥ pravrajyopanayavidhiḥ tadupadarśanārthamāha- (2) sarvasmin sannipatite saṃghe kṛtedaveṣaṃ nipatya pragṛhītāñjaliṃ utkuṭukasthaṃ vṛddhānte yācitavantaṃ trirjñapticaturthena karmaṇā saha pravrajyopasaṃpadau upanayeyuḥ iti purā-kalpaḥ|| maṇḍalake saṃghaikadeśasannipātapratiṣedhārthaṃ sarvasmin iti vacanam|| na maṇḍalakasthe'pi saṃghai(ka)deśe, kiṃtarhi tadantasīmānivāsini sarvasmin|| kṛto'yaṃ veṣo'nena iti kṛtedaṃveṣāḥ|| ayamiti buddhaśāsanabhikṣuveṣāpadeśaḥ| apanītakeśaśmaśruṃ bhikṣuveṣaṃ ca prāvṛtricīvaraṃ ityarthaḥ| nipatya iti vṛddhānta iti yadvakṣyate, tasya cābhisaṃbandhaḥ| vṛddhānte nipatya pañcamaṇḍalakena vandanāṃ kṛtvā ityarthaḥ|| pragṛhītāñjalimiti kṛtāñjalim|| utkuṭukasthamiti utkuṭukikayā'vasthitam| nāsanopaviṣṭam| kvāvasthitamityāha vṛddhānte|| nanū niṣaṇṇasya utkuṭukikayā vṛddhānte pragṛhītāñjalitvaṃ ityetatsaṃghādhīne karmaṇi-paribhāṣāyāṃ sarvakarmādhikārikaṃ sūtritam| tata eva ihāpi karmatvāt asya tritayasya prāptau satyāṃ kimiti punarvacanam-'vartamānakalpādhikārikatvāt pragṛhītāñjali' mityādeḥ paribhāṣāto astyasyeha purākalpe siddhiritivacanam|| yācitavantamiti kim| pravrajyopasaṃpadau| yācanaṃ punaḥ-"śṛṇotu, bhadantāḥ saṃgho, ahamevaṃ-nāmā ākāṅkṣāmisvākhyāte dharmavinaye pravrajyopasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvam" iti vistaraḥ|| anena mantreṇa triryācitavantaṃ jñapticaturthena karmaṇā iti tisro vācanā jñapticaturthā yasmin karmaṇi tad jñapticaturthaṃ karma, tena|| sahapravrajyopasaṃpadau iti pravrajyopasaṃpacca samānakālaṃ, na krameṇeti|| upanayeyuriti saṃghabhūtā bhikṣavaḥ|| tathā ca mantraḥ"śṛṇotu, bhadantāḥ saṃgho, ayamevaṃ-nāmā ākāṃkṣati svākhyāte dharmavinaye pravrajyāmupasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvaṃ yāvat prāvrājita upasaṃpādita evaṃ-nāmā saṃgheneti"|| iti purākalpaḥ|| iti-śabdaḥ prakāravācī|| purākalpa iti vartamānakalpāt prāk evaṃ-prakāraḥ pravrajyopasaṃpadvidhirityarthaḥ|| atha kimiti vartamānakalpa eva bhagavatā na prākprajñaptaḥ, kiṃ nā purākalpatyāgena asya vidheḥ punaḥ prajñapanam? [iti cet], viśuddhasattvā hi te tadānīṃ pratipattāraḥ| teṣāṃ na krameṇa viniyamyatvaṃ, na parāvaṣṭaṃbhena pariśikṣaṇaṃ vā| [na] glānyameṣāṃ, kṛtapuṇyatvāt asat na saṃpadyate-'saṃpanne vā bhavantyeṣāṃ svayamevānukampakāḥ| āntarāyikadharmāṇāṃ tadānīṃ anāpatteḥ| tathā'pasartṝṇāṃ ityataḥ purākalpaprajñapanam| yadā tvanyavidhā apyete jātāḥ tadottarasya saṃprattaṃ naiva kaścidupayogaḥ| kimanenehopanibaddhena? yadyapyanena kalpenā[dhunā]'vyavahāraḥ, tathāpi nāstyasyottarādanyatvaṃ, parikaramātrakaṃ tadasya yaduttaratra viśeṣaḥ| tatredaṃ mantratantram| etāvanmātrakamevāsīt, dvikamevaitadāsī(t)| vinayavaśādasya aparasyātravidheḥ vyavasthā-[na]-mityāsyārthasya khyāpanārthaṃ asyopanibandhaḥ| evaṃ saprayojanaḥ purākalpa upadarśitaḥ||
vartamānakalpa idānī[mucyate]-(3) niśritasya kaṃcidbhikṣuṃ tatropādhyāyatayā pravrajyopasaṃpadau|| kaṃcidbhikṣumiti| nāvaśyaṃ, yanniśritya pravrajyā tamevopasaṃpaditi pradarśanārthaṃ kaṃcit-iti vacanam| 'kathaṃ niśritya' āha upādhyāyatayā| 'kimartha niśritasya' ityāha tatra iti| pravrajyopasaṃpadapekṣaṃ| nimittasaptamī caiṣā| pravrajyopasaṃpannimittaṃ upādhyāyatvena kaṃcidbhikṣuṃ niśritasya pravrajyopasaṃpadau bhavataḥ, na yathā purākalpe kaṃcidaniśritasyaiveti|| pravrajyā punaratra yattasyāṃ arhavṛttaṃ śrāmaṇerasaṃvaraḥ, tenānusaktā veditavyāḥ| pra[vra]jyā śrāmaṇerasaṃvaraśca ubhayamapyenaṃ niśritasya| viśeṣaḥ punaratra upādhyāyādeva pravrajyā, saṃvaraḥ punaranyata iti| niśritasya niśrayaparigrahe vidhimāha-(4) pṛṣṭvā āntarāyikaṃ pariśuddhāya pūrvo [pādhyāyatvenā vakā]śaṃ kuryāt| pravrajyāyā yadāntarāyakaraṃ mātṛvadhādi tadāntarāyikamatra abhipretam| ato'sau niśrayaḥ pravrajyāpekṣamāntarāyikaṃ pṛṣtvā, na santi cet asya te dharmāḥ tataḥ pariśuddhāyāsmai pūrvopādhyāyatvena śrāmaṇeropādhyāyatvena avakāśaṃ kuryāt-'ahaṃ bhadantaṃ pravrājayāmi' iti | tathā ca granthaḥ-"yasya kasyacit pravrajyāpekṣa upasaṃkrāmati, sa tenāntarāyikān dharmān pṛṣṭa udgṛhītavya" iti| saṃvarāṇāṃ ānupūrvyaṃ darśayannāha-(5) nānupapannasya pūrvaṃ upāsakatva-śrāvaṇeratva-bhikṣutvānāmuttaram| eṣāmupāsakatvādīnāṃ pūrvaṃ-pūrvaṃ parvānupapannasya tādātmyopagatyā anupagatasya uttaraṃ uttaraṃ parva na kāryam| vyavasthākhyānametad|| pṛṣṭvā āntarāyikān pravrajyāpekṣaṃ ādāvupāsakatvaṃ grāhayet, tataḥ śrāmaṇeratvaṃ, tato bhikṣutvaṃ bhavati ityasya bodhanārthaṃ| na tvetadarthaṃ pūrvasminnasamāttena bhavatyuttarasya rūḍhiriti|| bhikṣusaṃvarasya pūrvaṃ saṃvarāntareṇāpi rūḍhau mukhyamastyeva [mūla]-vacanam| śrāmaṇerasaṃvarastu upāsakasaṃvaraṃ vibhavati iti rūḍhiḥ| bhikṣusaṃvaraḥ pratiśaranaṃ na tvasti[iti] vacanam| śaraṇagamaṇapūrvakaṃ saṃvarādānamiti darśayannāha-(6) śara[ṇa]gatyabhyupaga-[mavaca]nopakramaṃ upāsakatva-śrāmaṇeratvābhyupagamavacanaṃ kurvīta|| gatirgamanam| śaraṇagamanasyābhyupagamaḥ śaraṇagatyabhyupagamaḥ- buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchāmītyādi| tadabhidhāyakaṃ vacanaṃ śaraṇagatyabhyupagamavacanam, tadvacanam| upakrama ārambhaḥ| upāsakatva-śrāmaṇeratvābhyupagamavacanaṃ kurvīta|| ko'sau? pratīpattā, ayamarthaḥ| evaṃ samādātrā vaktavyam-"sāmanvāhara bhadanta ahaṃ evaṃ-nāmā buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchāmi yāvat gaṇānāmagryam, upāsakaṃ māṃ bhadanto dhārayatu yāvajjīvam, samanvāhara bhadanta ahamevaṃ-nāmā buddhaṃ yāvat gaṇānāmagryaṃ| śrāmaṇeraṃ māṃ ācāryo dhārayatu||" evaṃ bhūtāveva saṃdarbhau triḥ āvartayitavyau|| ye[na]tu ke[na]ciccharaṇagamanaṃ ādau trirāvartya tataḥ paścādupāsakaṃ māṃ bhadanto dhārayatu, śrāmaṇeraṃ māmācārya ityabhidhīyate, so'sau vedayitavyaḥ|| -yasmādanayoḥ saṃvarasamādānavacasoḥ, evaṃ sati, śaraṇagamanoktiḥ naiva aṅgabhāvaṃ pratipadyate| kiñca yena prāgeva śaraṇagamanamātraṃ [abhyupagamyate] tasya saṃvarādānakāle śaraṇagamanasyāvacanīyatāpattiḥ|| avaśyaṃ caitad nirvāṇāśayaprarūpaṇārthaṃ asminkāle vaktavyam| evam hyetad saṃvarasamādānavacasoḥ aṅgaṃ bhūtaṃ bhavati, nānyathā| na ca nirvāṇāśaya-dārḍhyamantareṇa saṃvarasyotthānam|| yasmāt nirvāṇānuguṇyaḥ saṃvaraḥ, upasaṃpadastarhi śaraṇagamanavacanamantareṇa kathaṃ rūḍhiḥ? naiṣa doṣaḥ| upasaṃpacchabdādeva tadarthasiddheḥ| sarvākaranīyaviratilakṣaṇatvāt, sarvātmanā hi nirvāṇopagatiḥ upasaṃpad| yataḥ upasaṃpadi sthitaḥ nirvāṇānuguṇyo vyavasthito bhavati|| kurvīta ityātmanepadaṃ pratipattyā etat karanīyaṃ ityetatsaṃdarśanārtham| yadatraparo'bhidhatte śikṣaṇaṃ taditi mantavyaṃ, na dānagrahaṇam, upoṣadhe'pi pratipatturevaitatkaraṇīyaṃ iti mantavyam| yatte dānagrahaṇadharmaḥ tatra iti kecid varṇayanti śikṣaṇādeva| bhrāntirasau teṣāmiti jñeyam, tulyatvātsamādānasya|| (7) anantaramasya śikṣotkīrttanaṃ [abhyupagamarūpeṇa] iti|| asya iti upāsakatva-śrāmaṇeratvābhyupagamavacanasyānantaraṃ upāsaka-śrāmaṇerakaśikṣāyāḥ tacchikṣāpadānāṃ yathāyogamutkīrtanam| pūrvatra pañcānāṃ, uttaratra daśānām, kena prakāreṇa ityāha-abhyupagamarūpeṇa| itaśca itaśca prativiramāmi iti, no tu idaṃ cedaṃ ca rakṣyaṃ yattvayā samāttam iti|| (8) svayaṃ upāsakatāṃ upanīya, ārocakāya saṃghasya arpayet bhikṣave|| svayamiti prakṛtatvāt upādhyāyaḥ, sa hi tatpravrājane kṛtāvakāśaḥ| sa svayamevopāsakatāmupanīya upāsakasaṃvaraṃ dattvā| yastaṃ pravrajyāpekṣaṃ saṃghasya ārocayate, tasmai samarpayeta bhikṣave-'ārocayaina'miti| bhikṣusaṃbandhādasyeti-kartavyatājātasya| svārthamevaitadupādhyāyasyeti pradarśanārthamātmanepadam|| [jñaptyādi]-karmātmakatvādasya anupasaṃpannenāpi saṃghe pravrajyāpekṣasya ārocanaṃ na virudhyata ityasya vikalpasya vyudāsārthaṃ bhikṣave iti vacanam| tathā ca granthaḥ-tataḥ paścāt bhikṣuradhyeṣitavyaḥ-yo'syārocayate iti|| ārocako'pi (9) 'kaccitpariśuddha' iti samarpitāramupādhyāyaṃ pṛṣtvā, śuddhaṃ santaṃ pravrajyāpekṣaṃ ārocaye [t]- "śruṇotu bhadantāḥ, saṃgho samanvāhrīyatṃ-ayamevaṃ - nāmā pravrajyāpekṣo gṛhītāvadātavasanaḥ" ityādinā mantreṇārocayediti yatparasmaipadaṃ tad paravyāpāreṇāsya pravṛtterasvārthatvāt| na hi atra yathā upādhyāye putra iva pravṛtteḥ svārthatvamevāsya || kathaṃ avasthite saṃghe ārocayedityāha-(10) sarvasannipāte vā [sanniṣaṇṇe'] nulayane vā|| anuparigaṇikayā ityasyedaṃ vivaraṇaṃ anulayanamiti| parigaṇo hi layanaviśeṣaḥ|| yeṣāṃ saṃnidhau ārocyate teṣāṃ yo vidhiḥ taddarśayannāha-(11) sa cetpariśuddha iti sarve brū yuḥ|| sa cet yadīryarthaḥ| ārocanottarakālaṃ pravrajyāpekṣaḥ|| (12) upādhyāyaṃ yāceta yāñcāmantreṇa| upādhyāyaścāsya(13) keśa śmaśrūnava-[tārayetācūḍam]|| upādhyāyatvena adhiṣṭhāpayan nāpitakārya-saṃdarśanārthaṃ avatārayeta iti ātmanepadam| na tu evaṃ mantavyaṃ upāḍhyāyenaivaitad svayaṃ kartavyamiti| na pāraṃparyeṇa kāritamakāritaṃ mantavyaṃ, arthārthatvātpravṛtteḥ| tasmāt saṃpanne'rthe pravṛttilopaḥ| tatra apratīkṣyopādhyāyopayogaṃ keśaśmaśru-avatārane anyena saṃpādite na punarupādhyāye-nātra pravartitavyamiti mantavyam|| ācūḍamiti cūḍāto'nyat| daḍhikāpanaye'pi na tathā vairūpyabuddhiryathā syāt| tasmānniścito'yaṃ na vā iti praśnena vijñānārthamasya sthāpanam-(14) avatāryatāṃ cūḍeti pṛṣṭenānujñāte, tam|| avatāryatāṃ cūḍā iti pṛṣṭena satā pravrājyena yadyanujñātaṃ bhavati, tato'nujñāte tena cūḍāvataraṇe tāṃ cūḍāṃ avatāra[yedi]tyanuvartate| evama[va]tāri takeśaśmaśruḥ (15) snāyāt|| kālānurūpeṇāmbhasā| snānottarakālaṃ ca (16) upādhyāyaḥ kāṣā[yā]ṇi vastrāṇi dadyāt|| so'pyupādhyāyasya (17) pādayoḥ nipatya pratigṛhṇīta|| tataḥ svayaṃ tasya (18) upādhyāyaḥ prāvṛṇuyāt| prāvṛṇvaṃśca ṣāṇḍha-paṇḍaka-avyañjana-ubhayavyañjanatvadoṣaparihārārthaṃ(19) vyañjanaṃ pratyavekṣeta asaṃcetitam|| na ca vinagnaṃ kṛtvā, api tu asaṃcetitaṃ-yathā'sau na [jā]nī te 'dṛṣṭaṃ me'nena vyañjana'miti| abhyupagamādupādhyāyasyaitatkarma| anyenā'pi bhikṣuṇā pratyayitena kṛtamāgamitam| kṛtamityeva upādhyāyeneti mantavyam|| (20) pravrajyāmupanayet śaraṇagamanopakramam|| 'ahaṃ evaṃ-nāmā buddhaṃ yāvad gaṇānāmagryaṃ, taṃ bhagavantaṃ śākyamuniṃ 'yāvatpravrajyāliṅgaṃ samādade' ityanena ma[ntreṇopādhyāya]ḥ śaraṇagamanaprārambhaṃ pravrajyāmupanayet, na vinā śaraṇagamanenādibhūtena ityarthaḥ| nānvayaṃ saṃvara ? iti| ko'syāṃ śa[ra]ṇagamanopakramatvenārtha iti kecidāhuḥ| tadasamyak| yasmāt pravrajyā nāma niveśanaparityāgaḥ, sarvaṃ ca sāstravaṃ vastu, abhiratasya tatra niveśanaṃ, tasmāt saṃsāravaimukhyaṃ niveśanaparityāgasya kārtsnyam| na ca nirvāṇā pāśrayeṇa saṃsāravaimukhyasya saṃpattiḥ| tasmāt, saṃvaravat atrāpi nirvāṇāśayaprarūpaṇaṃ kartavyam ityatrāpi śaraṇagamanopakramam| kecit pravrajyopanayanamantre 'pravrajyāliṅgaṃ samādade' ityataḥ purastāt 'śrāmaṇeraṃ māṃ upādhyāyo dhārayatu' iti paṭhanti' tadayuktam| prarūḍhasya punaḥ prarohābhāvataḥ, samāttasya ca samādāna [anupapatteḥ], ācāryeṇa mantre cāsya paṭhitavye'nupapattiḥ| śrāmaṇeratvopanayanamantre pravrajyopagatirapi taiḥ paṭhyate-'taṃ bhagavantaṃ śākyamuniṃ yāvat-pravrajyāliṅgaṃ samādade| arthahetoḥ upādhyāyasya nāma gṛhṇāmi| evaṃ nāmnopādhyāyena śrāmaṇeraṃ māmācāryo dhārayatu' iti| samāttasya ca samādānānupapatteḥ tadyathā-śrāmaṇeratvopanayanena arthena śrāmaṇerācāryatve vṛtte tasminnavasite arthe, ācāryatvādeḥ bhūtatvam-jātatā| tasmāt vṛtteṣūpanayanādiṣu eṣāṃ ācāryatvānāṃ jātatvaṃ veditavyam| kimupādhyāyatvasyāpi yenārthena asau upādhyāyaḥ tasminnavasite'rthe jātatvamityāha-(27) abhupagatāvupādhyāyasya yāñcāyāṃ tadudbhūtiḥ|| yāñcākāle upādhyāyasya ya'bhyupagatiḥ tasyāṃ upādhyāyatvasya udbhūtiḥ| na pravrajyopanayane upasaṃpannalakṣaṇasya vā āvṛtte'rthe| yenarthena vṛttenaiṣāṃ [ācāryatvopā] dhyāyatvānāṃ janma, tasyārthasya kadā vṛttatā ityāha-(28) āvṛttau tṛtīye'ṅge antyāyāṃ vṛttatvam|| yatrāvarttī so'rtho, yadaṃśaṃ ācāryatvādīnāṃ vṛttatvaṃ sā āvṛttiḥ| tasyāṃ arthasya vṛttatva| tisraśca tāścāvṛttayaḥ| tatra na jñāyate ka[ta]rasyāmāvṛttau āvṛttervā katamasminnaṃśa iti| tatra idamucyate-tatra antyāyāṃ paścimā[yām| tadāvṛtti] stasyāḥ tṛtīyo yoṃ'śaḥ, tasmin tasyārthasya [vṛttatvaṃ] mantavyam|| udāharaṇena enamarthaṃ prajñapayati- (29) tadyathā parotkīrtanakāle śrāmaṇeratvasya|| parasya puanetuḥ utkīrtanakāle| śrāmaṇeraṃ ca mamityataḥ parastāt 'ācārya' iti yatparotkīrtanaṃ, tatra śrāmaṇeratvakārake yaḥ upanetuḥ arthaḥ śrāmaṇerasaṃvaro nāma, tasya vṛtta[tvaṃ mantavyaṃ, ā-] cāryo dhārayatu ityatra mantavyam, na bhadanto dhārayatu iti|| (30) paścime'tra upādhyāyatvasya iti| vṛttatvaṃ iti vartate|| atreti parotkīrtanakāle bahūpādhyāyayācane 'samanvāhara' iti śabdāt bhikṣusaṃbaṃdhotkīrtanātparāṇi upādhyāyotkīrtanāni| tatra yattṛtīyotkīrtanaṃ upādhyāyena pravrajiṣyāmi upasaṃpatsye vā iti, ataḥ pūrvaṃ yaḥ [tasminkāle] upādhyāyārthaḥ tasya amyupagama[sya] ātmano vṛttatvam| tasminneva kāle pravrajyāyāmupādhyāyena iti vaktavyam| upasaṃpadi ca| yadi pūrvameva nopādhyāyo bhavati, nācāryeṇa vā, bhadantena vā iti| apracchedataḥ cātra tṛtīyoṃ'śo veditavyaḥ, iti|| śrāmaṇeratvopagatau tu prabaṃdhapracchedau-śaraṇagamanaṃ śrāmaṇeratvābhyupagamaśca| tatra paścimaṃ pracchedaṃ avāntarārthānugatyā śrāmaṇeraṃ māmiti, ācāryo dhārayatu iti dvidhā kṛtvā tritvamadhyavasitam| kasmātpunaḥ asamāptāyāmeva ābṛttau tṛtīye'ṅgatvasya vṛttatvaṃ bhavati, yadbhūyaḥ kṛtaṃ iti kṛtvā sarveṣveva cāyaṃ sīmābandhādiṣu vidhirdraṣṭavyaḥ| tadevaṃ raho'nuśāsakasya aparyavasitāyāṃ rahasyanuśiṣṭau ācāryatvaṃ śrāmaṇeratvopanāyino'tra kāle karmakārakasya evaṃvidhamiti kṛtam|| niśrayadāyakapāthakayoḥ kadā iti na jñāyate| anavasthitatvāt niśrayadānapāṭhakayoḥ parimāṇasya|| tatra yāvatā anayoḥ ācāryatā-kṛ[ta] tvaṃ tadākhyāyate-(31) paryanto niḥśrayadānasyaikarātraṃ niśrayatvena pratyupasthānam| ekarātraḥ eko'horātraḥ, ekarātram| niśrayācāryasya niśritaṃ prati niśrayatvena yatpratyupasthānameva [paryantatvaṃ], niśrayadānasya paryantaḥ| tathā ca graṃthaḥ -'niśrayācāryaḥ katamaḥ,yasyāntike ekāmapi rātriṃ niśrayeṇoṣito bhavati' iti| ataḥ prabhṛti asya paripūrṇarūpatvaṃ, arvāk tatspṛṣṭimātrakaṃ agataparyantaṃ akṛtatvena manasi nilīyamānaṃ na niśrayasaṃkhyāṃ gantumarhati|| (32) pāṭhasya trirekagāthā-parivartanam|| yasyāntikāt paṭhanābhiprāyeṇa trirekāgāthā parivartitā sa pāṭhācāryaḥ| evaṃ hi pāṭhasya paryantaḥ| tathā ca graṃthaḥ -'pāṭhācāryaḥ katamaḥ? yasyāntikāt āvṛttasya dvikā'pi gāthā triḥ parivartyaṃ udgṛhītā bhavati' iti| tad [ya]matra ārṣagranthābhiprāyo lakṣyate|| pāṭhācāryeṇa uktasya paṭhituḥ anuvadanamudgrahaḥ| sakṛduktau ca spṛṣṭimātrakaṃ aparipūrṇarūpaṃ paṭhanaṃ manasi nilīyate| triḥprabhṛti tu gataparyanta iva prabandho'valakṣyate| tasmāt eṣa nyāyyaḥ pāṭhaparyantaḥ iti|| ācāryo ratnasiṃhastu āha-pāṭhaparyantāḥ evaṃ-vidhā eva, yaddarśanāṭ tenedaṃ sūtraṃ praṇītam|| evaṃ tu yujyate, yasmād yadasau granthaṃ anapekṣya sūtrayati|| tatropapattimācaṣṭe, idaṃ tu yuktimantareṇa sūtramātramevopanibaddham, tasya niyamenātra kvacidevaṃrūpeṇa ārṣeṇa bhavitavyamiti|| (33) nā'paṭhanābhiprāyeṇa uccāraṇe pāṭhatvam| apaṭhanābhi[prāyeṇa]yaduccāraṇaṃ| tadyathā, svādhyāyanikādau pāṭha evāsau na bhavati| abhyasanābhiprāyeṇa uccāraṇe asya vyavahārasya prasiddhatvāt| tasmāt nātaḥ ācāryatvasyotthānam||(34) nānyathā enau upapadayet|| enau ācāryopādhyāyau| upo[ccāri]padaṃ upapadam| āyuṣmantabhadanta-sthaviropapadaiḥ nopapadayitavyau| nirupapadanāmagrahaṇaṃ tu anayoḥ ['vṛddhasya nirupapadaṃ nāṃa na gṛhṇīyāt ityanenaiva pratiṣiddhaṃ veditavyam|| ācāryaḥ 'ācārya' eva vaktavyaḥ| upādhyāyaśca 'upādhyāya' iti|| (35) naivamanyamiti|| ācāryopādhyāyābhyāmanyaḥ pudgalaḥ upādhyāyācāryaśabdābhyāṃ nopapadayitavyaḥ|| (36) unmukhībhūta iti upasaṃpadupādhyāyatvena pratypasthitaḥ| adhīcchet iti adhyeṣet| rahonuśāsakañceti adhīcchet| bhikṣumiti rahonuśāsakārthaṃ bhikṣugrahaṇaṃ, na karmakārakārtham| karmaparibhāṣāyāṃ yaḥ evaṃ-bhāvaḥ evaṃtvam| [tadūnatvā]-didoṣopetatvam| naivaṃ-tvaṃ anaivaṃ-tvaṃ, etaddoṣavimuktatvaṃ ityarthaḥ||(43) apakramite, ka iti ākhyāpya rahonuśāsakaṃ utsāhya karmakārakaḥ saṃgha enamanujñāpayet|| apakramita iti maṇḍalakasthānādanyatra apanītopasaṃpādye, rahonuśāsakagatasya karmaṇo na śravaṇa, atra apakāsanārthaḥ, nā'nyo dṛśyate| tasmāt yatra sthitasyāsya etacchravaṇaṃ na gacchati, tatra iti karmavidheḥ gantavyam| purastād vakṣyate-darśanopavicāre enaṃ apakāsanena sthāpayeyuḥ gaṇābhimukhaṃ pragṛhītāñjalimiti| ka iti ākhyāpyeti ko'dhīṣṭaḥ evaṃ-nāmnā evaṃ-nāmnā rahonuśāsakaḥ ityanena mantreṇa 'ahamevaṃ-nāmā' ityākhyāpya rahonuśāsakam| utsāhya iti tvameva rahonuśāsakaḥ, utsahase tvaṃ ityā dinā enamiti rahonuśāsakaṃ anujñāpayet iti| etadarthaṃ karmakārakaḥ jñaptiṃ kuryāt|| kecit etadgate mantre yat saṃghasya evaṃ-nāmānaṃ rahonuśāsakaṃ saṃmanyeta iti paṭhanti tad ayuktam, karmavācanāyāḥ api kartavyatā'patteḥ, akāraṇāccāsyāḥ| naiṣā saṃmatiranujñapanametad, iti vyavasthā| tad mātṛpitṛ-saṃjñetyādinā| evaṃ te so'bhyasto gṛhisaṃbaṃdhaḥ pratibimbayitavyaḥ iti|| (65) vinīta-saṃvāsatāyām| adyāgreṇa te sagauraveṇa ityādinā|| (66) prayojanānuṣṭhāne|| adyāgreṇa te uddeṣṭavyamityādinā| (67) saṃpatyasyamānatāṃ asamākhyātāṃ samāttaparijñānasya ācakṣīta|| imāni ca imāni te mayā audārikaudārikau [itye] -vamādinā, saṃprati anākhyātasya samāttasya vṛttasya parijñāmeva saṃpatsyate iti|| (68) ādare niyuñjīta|| 'eṣatvamupasaṃpanna' iti gāthābhyāṃ 'prāstadikasya' iti anayā kṣaṇasampado daurlabhyaṃ darśayati, yasmāt asatsvapi anyeṣu akṣaṇeṣu, labdhe'pi prāpye'nukampakaiḥ dṛṣṭi saṃpanne ca manuṣyatve bahavo'tra apariśuddhisaṃkhyā antarāyā [vairū] pyaṃ ca| tasmāt durlabhā eṣā|| (69) sopāyākhyānaṃ ca saṃpādane|| sahopāyākhyānena sopāyākhyānam, yadarthaṃ pravrajyopasaṃpat tatsaṃpādane niyuñjīta-upasaṃpannastvaṃ āyuṣman apramādena saṃpādaya ityanena| tadyathā anuprāptastvaṃ etatsthānaṃ, abhiratiridānīmatra kartavyā iti| sāmīcyām ādau triḥkaraṇaṃ saṃghasaṃghaṭitāyāṃ anuśiṣṭau ca niṣa[ṇṇasyo] tkuṭukikayā purataḥ iṣṭake pārṣṇibhyāṃ rahonuśiṣṭau upasaṃpadi sthitasya pātraṃ vāme pāṇau pratiṣthāpya, praticchādya dakṣiṇena pāṇinā ityādeḥ karmavastuni vakṣyamāṇatvāt iha anupanibandhaḥ|| upasaṃpad vidhiḥ||
(iii) niśrayagatam
(70) nānavalokya niśrayam niśritakaraṇīyaṃ kuryāt|| apṛcchanaṃ anavalokanam, apṛṣtvā na kiñcitkuryādityarthaḥ|| karaṇīyeṣu avalokanaprasaktasya kiṃñcitkaraṇīyasya apṛṣtvā'pi karaṇamuktaṃ bhagavatā, ityāha-(71) muktvā uccāraprasrāvaṃ dantakāṣṭhavisarjanaṃ sopavicāravihāracaityābhivandanam|| yad antarvyāpārasaṃkhyena kaṇḍanādinā vyāpāreṇa abhivyāpyate taccaityāṅganam, so'tropavicāro yujyate| saha upavicāreṇa sopavicāraḥ, tatra caityaṃ, tasyābhivaṃdanam|| (72) ekānnapañcāśat-vyāmaparyantādvihārato gamanam|| muktvā ityanubandhaḥ| ekānna[pañcāśat] iti 'āṭa'-sandhiḥ ekānnapañcāśat-vyāmasya paryantādyāvat ityarthaḥ|| yatra vihāre khātako vā prākāro vā anyo vā parivāro vidyate, tatra sa vihārānta iti adhyavasānaṃ yujyate| anekaprākārādi-sadbhāve sarvabāhyaḥ| tasmāt tatra tasya bāhyapārśvamasya pramāṇasyāvadhiḥ| yastu[nopa]-vicāraḥ tatra vihārabhittirevāvadhiḥ| yadatra parataḥ pūrvoktasyopavicārasya sthānaṃ, na tadgataṃ caityaṃ abhivanditavyam, ityatropatiṣṭhate || parisarpaṇabhūtasya etadanujñānam || anyacca, ataḥ caityābhivandanamiti tatra kiṃ pratipattavyam?-tadartha na gantavyam anāpṛṣṭvā| parisarpaṇārthaṃ tu gatena vanditavyamiti|| dvividhametatkaraṇīyam-[ārambha]-bhutaṃ abhinamanabhūtaṃ ca| tatra yadārambhabhūtaṃ tasyaiva pratiṣedhaḥ, abhinamanabhūtasya tu apratiṣedhyatvaṃ vyavatiṣṭhate|| nānāpṛcchya ālapitavyaṃ, na saṃlapitavyaṃ, na pratisaṃmoditavyaṃ, na prativacanaṃ dātavyaṃ, nodakadigdhena pāṇinā dharmitena pādau vā mukhaṃ vā hṛdayādikaṃ vā anuparimārṣṭavyaṃ, nodakena hastādeḥ [parimārjanaṃ(?) rajovakīrṇa]-vasrādi prasphoṭayitavyaṃ ityādeḥ iti hāsapadabhūtasya vṛttasya āpatteḥ|| upānaha-dantakāṣṭha-pāṭhaḥ svādhyāyopasaṃhārāṇāṃ karaṇapratīṣṭoḥ tajjāṭīyasya bhikṣorantikāditi viśeṣaparigrahāt abhipretamatra abhinamanabhūtaṃ iti gamyate| duṣṭo'tra pravrajito jñātaḥ śaṃkito vā anāpṛṣṭo [aparityakta] vyo(?), nānyaḥ| na hi paṭhati, svādhyāyaṃ vā kurvati, upasaṃhārasya tadanurūpe kāle karaṇaṃ ityādeḥ karaṇayītvena prajñānam| abhinamanaprakāratvena hyetasya manasi nilayanam| duṣṭe tu vipakṣānugatitvena etatpratibhāsāmāṇaṃ ārambhatvena khyātimupagacchati| tasmāt yatra yatnaḥ kartavya ityatrābhiprāyo dṛśyate|| udakapānasya anāpṛcchākaraṇaṃ anena pravicāreṇa kṛtaṃ veditavyam|| tadvidhaṃ hyetad yadvidhaṃ dharmitasya gātrāṇāmudakena saṃsparśanam|| niśritavṛttaṃ ucyate-(73) pātracīvarakarmaṇi, glānopasthāne, kaukṛtyaprativinodane, pāpakadṛṣṭigatapratiniḥsarge tīvraṃ autsukyamāpadyeta-aho bata ahaṃ kuryām kārayeyaṃ vā iti|| raṅgakarma api atra kecit paṭhanti| tasya cīvarakarmaṇo nātirekāt grahaṇam|| (74) saṃghe praṇidhātukāme-utkṣepaṇīyādi-praṇidhikarma kartukāme saṃghe aho bata saṃgho niśrayasyedaṃ praṇidhikarma na kuryāt|| iti tīvramautsukyamāpadyate, nivartate-yāvat āvṛhet iti sarvatraitadanuṣaktaṃ veditavyam|| (75) kṛte avasārayet|| iti praṇidhikarmaṇi kṛte-aho bata saṃgho'sya avasārayet iti|| (76) parivā [sa]-mūlaparivāsamānāpya-mūlamānāpya-ābarhaṇārthini niśraye aho brata saṃgho asya aprivāsādicatuṣkaṃ dadyāt, ābarhaṇārthini aho bata ābṛhet iti|| (77) so'pyetadasmai kuryāt, utsṛjyāvalokanam|| so'pi niśrayaḥ| etad pātracīvarakarmādi| asmai niśritāya kuryāt| utsṛjyāvalokanaṃ avalokanamekaṃ muktvā|| (78) nonadaśava [ṣaḥ upasaṃpadaḥ u]-pādhyāyatva-niḥśrayatva-aniśritavāsān kuryāt|| upasaṃpadāya ūnadaśavarṣaḥ sa etat trayaṃ na kuryāt|| (79) anūna-daśavarṣo'pi upasaṃpadā, nāsamanvitiḥ kenacidanantarebhyaḥ samāyogena|| ye'nantaraṃ vakṣyamāṇāḥ pañcāṅgikāḥ samāyogāḥ tebhyaḥ yena kenacit ekenā'pi samanvito yogyo[nā'nya i]ti bhāvaḥ|evañca yaduktaṃ aparairapi pañcabhirdharmaiḥ samanvāgatena ityatra na samuccayo vijñātavyaḥ ebhiḥ imaiśca aparairiti| api tu ebhiḥ tāvatkartavyaṃ ityuktam, imairapi aparaiḥ iti vikalpaḥ|| kuta etad?| asaṃbhavāt sarvāsāmāsāṃ pañcikānāṃ sākṣyasya|| ādyāyāṃ tu pañcikāyāṃ daśavarṣa[tvāṅga] ukte daśavarṣo bhavatyupasaṃpadeti | tadebhiḥ daśavarṣagrahaṇaṃ ādau sarvasya uttarasya eṣa viṣāyaparigraha iti khyāpanārtham| sthitārthatvaṃ vinaye, daśavarṣatve sati upādhyākaraṇādau kāraṇaṃ| viśeṣabhūtatvāṃ śeṣasya tatrā'sti cet saviśeṣatvaṃ uttamakalpaḥ| na cet etanmātrakamapi atrāvalambi[tavyam| yathā] śaikṣatvādeḥ viśeṣasya laṅghyatvam evamasyāpi daśavarṣatve sati vinaye sthitārthatvasyeti| te idānīṃ samāyogāṃ ucyante| (80) glānopasthāna-kaukṛtyaprativinodana-pāpakadṛṣṭigatapratiniḥsarga-anabhiratiṣṭhānapramīlanānāṃ karaṇakāraṇe sāmarthyam|| kaukṛtyaprativinodanakaraṇasāmarthyagrahaṇena [vinaye sthitārtha-] tvasya pratipādanam| dṛṣṭigatapratiniḥsargagrahaṇena dharmasthitau kuśalatvasya| anabhiratisthitipramīlanagrahaṇena apayujyatvasya ādeyavākyatvasya vā|| nā'tra kāraṇagrahaṇena aśaktenā'pi karaṇaṃ kṛtaṃ mantavyam| api tu vineyavaśāt gamyatve sati, parapravartanāyāṃ vyāpāragamane sāmarthyasya upagṛhītatvam| evañca atra bhavati anatilaṅghyasya kāraṇasya vinaye sthitārthatvasya alaṅghanam|| (81) prākśaikṣatvāt apañcake sa-śīlavattā bāhuśrutyam|| śaikṣatvaṃ aśaikṣatā ityataḥ prāk yatsahoktaṃ pañcakaṃ na bhavati, tadyathā-śraddhāśīlādisamāyogābhyāmanye samāyogāḥ tad śīlavattayā'pi bāhuśrutyena ca sahitaṃ veditavyam| saha śīlavattā-bāhuśrutyābhyāṃ śīlavattā-bāhuśrutyaṃ pañcakam| śīlavatta atra duḥśīlena sārdhaṃ saṃvāsasyaiva ayogāt prativiśiṣṭā, yathā kalyāṇo'yam iti manyante [sā]'sya veditavyā|| bāhuśrutyaṃ punaḥ yasmin samāyoge piṭakānāṃ grahaṇaṃ vidyate, tatra tadvipakṣabhūtānāṃ parapravādānāṃ, vastu-pada-vākyādyaṅgānāṃ, chandovicityādeḥ, itihāsavṛttakānāṃ vā abhijñatvaṃ yatra na vidyate tatra piṭakānāṃ grahaṇaṃ boddhavyam|| (82)piṭakābhijñatvam|| sūtra-vinaya-mātṛkābhijñatvaṃ, śīlavattā bāhuśrutyaṃ ca prakṣipya pañcakam| vinaye uktam-'sūtradharo, vinayadharo, mātṛkādharaḥ; sūtravyakto, vinayasya vyakto, mātṛkāyāḥ vyaktaḥ, sūtrakuśalo, vinayakuśalo, mātṛkākuśalaḥ, sūtrakovido, vina[ya]kovido, mātṛkākovidaḥ' iti| tatra udgṛhītasyā vismṛtiḥ sūtrādidhāraṇam, piṭakatraye cedam|| ekatra gatasya itaratradarśanāt sāṃkaryeṇa avasthitam| tathāvasthitasyāsya vivekena paricchedasāmarthyaṃ idaṃ kauśalam| yuktyāgamābhyāṃ sūtrādiyojanaṃ kovidatvam|| tathā yojitena yatparapratipādanasāmarthyam etad vyaktatvam|| sahāvismṛtyā sarvametad abhijñatvamiti sāmānyena abhijñāvacanenoktam|| (83) grāheṇa eṣāṃ pratibalatvam|| piṭakānāṃ nānabhijñaḥ teṣu tad-grāhaṇe pratibalo bhavati, tasmāt viśeṣasyaitad piṭakābhijñavacanaṃ veditavyam|| (84) adhiśīlacittaprajñā śikṣattā|| śikṣadbhāvaḥ śikṣattā, dvaṃdvaikavadbhāvaḥ|| adhiśīlagrahaṇena sarvasya vinayavṛttasya grahaṇam, adhicittagrahaṇena [dhyānānām], adhiprajñagrahaṇena satyadarśanābhyāsasya || (85) pratibalatvaṃ vā śikṣaṇāyām || adhiśīlādāviti saṃpratyayotpādanārthaṃ vā-śabdaḥ kṛtaḥ, na vikalpārtham| nāśikṣitaḥ adhiśīlādau tacchikṣaṇe pratibalo bhavati| viśeṣasyaiva etad 'śikṣā' iti vacanaṃ iti veditavyam|| (86) evaṃ adhyācāravinayaṃ prātimokṣam, iti| evaṃ iti anena śikṣattā, pratibalatvaṃ vā śikṣaṇāyāṃ ityasya parāmarśaḥ|| tataśca dvāvetau samāyogau bhavataḥ| tatra adhyācāraḥ āsamudācārikam, vinayaḥ śeṣabhūtam| prātimokṣaśikṣaṇāḥ vastuvidhayaśca saparikarāḥ prātimokṣaḥ tadākhyaḥ| tatra paryāpannāni śikṣāpadāni|| (87) śraddhā-śīla-śruta-tyāga-prajñāsaṃpannatvam|| śīlagrahaṇenātra vinayasya grahaṇam|| (88) śīla-samādhi-prajñā-vimukti-tajjñāna darśanaiḥ|| saṃpannatvamityanubandhaḥ| śīlasaṃpannagrahaṇena atra vinayakhyākṣiptatvaṃ, nānyathā, bhikṣośīla-saṃpatteḥ saṃbhavaḥ iti| tajjñāne iti tacchabdena vimukteḥ parāmarśaḥ, vibhuktijñānadarśanamiti|| (89) sārabdhavīryatvaprājñatvaṃ ca|| prākśaikṣatvācchīlavattābāhuśrutyaṃ ityasya ca-śabdātpratyupasthānam| ita ūrdhvaṃ prākśaikṣatvāt yatsahoktaṃ pañcakaṃ na bhavati tadārabdhaṃ-vīryatvaprājñatvābhyāṃ ca sahoktaṃ veditavyam| śīlavattābāhuśrutyābhyāṃ ca trīṇyatra ekakānyuktāni-(90-92) smṛtimatvam|| pratisaṃlīnatvam|| samāhitatvam| iti|| teṣāṃ etaccatuṣka-pūraṇam-śīlavān bhavati bahuśrutaḥ, ārabdhavīryaḥ, prājñaḥ, smṛtimān| punaretaccatuṣkamuktvā pratisaṃlīnaśca bhavatīti vaktavyam| punaḥ samāhita iti|| (93) śaikṣatvamiti| śaikṣeṇa śīlaskandhena samanvāgato bhavati| śaikṣeṇa samādhi-prajñā-vimukti-vimukteḥ jñānadarśanaskandena ityasya eṣā saṃgrahaḥ|| (94) aśaikṣatā iti|| aśaikṣeṇa śīlaskandhena ityādeḥ yad anayoḥ dharmatā-viniyataṃ vṛttaṃ tatra yatsādhvasādhutāparijñānaṃ, tad tāvat anayoḥ ādhigamikameva| yadāpattivyavasthāparijñānaṃ [yacca śiṣṭasya] vinayavidheḥ, tatrāpyetau daśavarṣāditvāt svātantrye vyavasthitau niyataṃ kṛtaprayatnau iti na atra anatilaṅdhyakāraṇā[d] atilaṃghanaṃ kṛtaṃ veditavyam|| (95) utpatti-prajñapti-anuprajñaptiḥ-pratikṣepa-abhyanujñā-bhijñatvam|| ata etad utpannamiti śikṣapadotpattinidāne asyotpattiśabdenā-bhidhānam| śikṣāpadavyavasthāpanaṃ prajñaptiḥ| prajñaptigraḥaṇena iyatā antike ca sthūlātyayo deśayitavyaḥ ityādeḥ grahaṇam| idamatra punaḥ pratikṣiptaṃ abhyanujñātaṃ ceti anuprajñaptiḥ| tadyathā-upānadabhyanujñānena saṇasaṇāpattiḥ ityādeḥ viśeṣasya pratiṣedhaḥ| akālabhojanapratikṣepe ca glānasya vaidyavacanādabhyanujñānam| atyantamidaṃ na kartavyamiti hi vidhānaṃ pratikṣepaḥ| tadyathā-tṛṇāgreṇāpi madyasyāpānaṃ abrahmacaryādi ca| abhyanujñā punaḥ yasya karaṇīyasya akaraṇe vā nā'sti doṣaḥ kāmacāro'tra pravṛttau| tadyathā-paravādinigrahārthaṃ bahiḥśāstrāṇi adhyeyānītyādi| atra akaraṇe karaṇe [ca] na kaścidāpattidoṣaḥ| etāvacca karaṇīyākaraṇīyaparijñānaṃ prativinaye śeyam| tade tad avinayābhijñatvaṃ adhikaṃ pañcakena khyāpitaṃ veditavyaṃ, āpattyādipañcakena ca||
(96) āntarāyika-anāntarāyikābhijñatvaṃ ākhyāpitā'naśāsakatvaṃ (ca)|| ātnarāyika-anāntarāyika-abhijñatvaṃ ca ākhyāpitā ca anuśāsakatvaṃ ceti vigrahaḥ| akaraṇīyaṃ yadvinaye tad āntarāyikaṃ, karaṇīyaṃ yattad anāntarāyikaṃ, tayoḥ abhijña-tvaṃ vinaye sthitārthatvasya etad-dvayaṃ udbhāvakam| ākhyāpitā punaḥ vaktuṃ bodhayituṃ vā asyaitad-dvayasya kauśalabhūtaṃ sāmarthyaṃ anālasyaṃ vā| anuśāsakatvaṃ vyātikrame saṃsthāpanānurūpaṃ vaktṛtvaṃ, ālasye ca avartanānurūpaṃ ācakṣako bhavati, anuśāsaka ityasyai[va] pāṭhasyārtha uktaḥ|| kecidanayoḥ sthāne 'avavadati ' 'anuśāsti' iti paṭhanti| tatra anuśāsti iti tulyaṃ anuśāsako bhavatīti-anena| avavadatīti manasikārārthaṃ ya upadeśaḥ tasyānena abhidhānam|| etadarthaṃ pravrajyā| tasmādeṣo'tra viśeṣato arhati, parṣatsaṃgrahaṃ iti vā asyopasaṃgrahaḥ|| (97) saha grahaṇapratibalatvena niśrayasyopaniśrayasya vā|| grāhaṇe pratibalatvaṃ grāhaṇa atibalatvaṃ, saha anena grāhaṇapratibalatvenaita dāntarāyikā'bhijñatvādipañcakam| dvāvetau samāyogau, eko niśrayagataṃ atra catuṣke prakṣipya, aparaḥ upaniśrayagataṃ iti pratipādanārthaṃ vā śabdaḥ| upādhyāye anyatra prakrāmati, niśrayagrāhaṇe pratibalatvamupayujyate| upādhyāye anyatra vā niśraye tāvatkālikābhiprāyeṇa prakrāmati tiṣṭhati ca kasyaci jjanasya vaśāt upaniśrayagrāhaṇe (pratibalatvaṃ) upayujyate|| (98) āpatti-anāpatti-gurulaghutābhijñatva-pravṛttaprātimokṣavistaratvam|| tatra āpatyanāpatti-abhijñatvasya karaṇīya(-akaraṇīya-) viniyoge niśrita-pratyupayogaḥ, gurulaghutābhijñatvasya sthūlātyayadeśanāyām| pravṛttaprātimokṣavistaratvena vinaye adhiṣṭhitārthatvaṃ darśitam| [ta]ccānena vistaraśabdena vinayasya gṛhītatvam| na ca mantavyaḥ prātimokṣavistaraśabdo na bibhaṅgāt-śiṣṭasya vastukṣudrakādeḥ pratipādakaḥ iti| sarvasyāsya prātimokṣavistarabhūtatvāt| sarvasya ādyādapi prātimokṣādutthānam| 'yaḥ punaḥ bhikṣu-bhikśuṇībhiḥ sārdhaṃ' ityataḥ pravrajyāvastunaḥ (utthānam)| 'poṣadhaṃ āyuṣmanta' iti [poṣadhava] stunaḥ, 'poṣadhaviśeṣaḥ pravāraṇā ūnavarṣakāḥ" iti vārṣikavastunaḥ| ataeva pravāraṇāvastuno varṣāvāsābhisaṃbaṃdhena vyavasthāpanāt| 'uddhṛte kaṭhina" iti kaṭhinavastunaḥ, "niṣṭhitacīvareṇa bhikṣuṇā" iti cīvaravastunaḥ| 'cīvarapakṣaṃ carma-bhaiṣajyapakṣaṃ ceti' tadutthānakāraṇādeva carmavastunaḥ, 'yāni tāni bhagavatā glānā[nāṃ bhikṣūṇāṃ bhaiṣajyāni amyanujñātāni' iti bhaiṣajyavastunaḥ| 'anāgatānāṃ āyuṣmatāṃ ca chandaṃ ca pariśuddhiṃ ca ārocayata, mā samagrasya saṃghasya bhedaya parākramata' ityādeḥ sauśāmbikavastunaḥ saṃghabhedavastunaśca| ataśca pravrajyādikarma-saṃsūcakāt alābhaśca, ihāpi tenetyādeśca karmavastunaḥ| saṃkrāmaṃ tena bhikṣuṇā saṃghe parivastavyam iti [ādinā pāṇḍulohitavastunaḥ| akāmatvena karmādinā parivāsavastunaḥ|| yad āpattivyavasthānasya paścāt karaṇadeśanā saṃghāvaśeṣapratideśanā ca,t asmāt poṣadhasthāpanavastunaḥ| 'bhikṣūṇāṃ mahāvihāra' ityanena śayanāsanavastunaḥ| adhikaraṇasāmarthyapradarśanārtha api āpattipoṣadhavyavasthāpanāt adhikaraṇavastunaḥ| vacaṇāṅgabhūtaṃ tajjātīya-anyacchīlā (cāro iti) dvividhatvena prātimokṣaḥ vastūnāṃ śeṣaśca| kṣudrakāṇāṃ mātṛkāgatavastūnāṃ ca uktiḥ ityādīnāṃ nirdeśaḥ pṛcchā| caryānirdeśastu pṛcchā-vinītakaraṇāni| carmavastvādayaḥ dārakeṣu| tathāhi etadanavaśiṣṭaṃ prātimokṣavistaratvaṃ na bhavati| vibhaṅgamātreṇa pravṛtte pravrajyādikaraṇaṃ na bhavati, evaṃ karaṇīyatveṣvapi etanmātrapradarśanatvāt|| (99) vṛddhābhāve navakaṃ niśrayet|| yadi vṛddhaḥ yena kenā'pi pratirūpakena pañcakena samanvāgataḥ na syāt, tadā'yaṃ vidhiḥ-bhadantaḥ bhikṣuḥ upasaṃpadaḥ ūnaṣaṣtivarṣaḥ, anena prātimokṣasūtraṃ vistareṇa udgṛhya paṭhitvā (dhāritaṃ) na bhavati tena, anyatra prakramitaṃ vā tena, upāli, anyaniśrayeṇa bhavitavyam iti uktam| atra ṣaṣṭivarṣaḥ asvataṃtraḥ (=niśritaḥ) api bāhuśrutyasya viśeṣābhāvāt 'vṛdhābhāve' ityādi uktam| (100) sāmīciṃ kevalaṃ sthāpayitvā| ityasmin vandanā na śīlavrate paryāṃpannā, anyatra bṛddhasya niśritena navakena (saha) anusaṃvāsayitavyaḥ ityabhiprāyaḥ|| (101) caret aniśritaḥ pañcavarṣaḥ paścimasamāyogena samanvitaḥ janapadacārikām|| āpatti anāpatti-ityādiḥ paścimasamāyogaḥ, tena ca samanvitaḥ pañcavarṣaḥ aniśritaḥ janapadacārikāṃ caret|| (102) nānyathā traividyo'pi|| pañcadharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ, ūnapañcavarṣo'pi, yato mārgāt vinayabhraṣṭo'pi tato pañcavarṣaśīlabhāva-samāyogāt duḥkhavipariṇato bhavati| aparipūrṇavarṣo na bhavati ityatra abhisaṃdhiḥ dṛṣṭaḥ| 'traividyau'pi' iti| niśraye niśritārthaṃ karaṇīyākaranīyaparijñānaṃ dvividhaṃ ca parivinītam| tatra yadyapi asya dharmatā abhijñānatvāt, pūrvanivāsajñānatvena pravṛtti-darśanatvāt, duṣkara-alpasaṃvitpratisevanayā āgatasaṃpadā ca karaṇīyākaraṇīyesu parijñānaṃ siddhaṃ bhavati| evaṃ parivineyārthaṃ niśrayaṃ niśrayet| yadartheṃna duḥkhavyavahāravinayatve pūrvātma-sahitabhāvasya svabhāvaparihārāt| arhatāṃ pūrvasvabhāvaparihāraḥ śrūyate| kaścidarhan pūjākṣetraḥ, pūjākṣetrebhyaḥ saṃtīrṇaḥ, āyuṣmān pilindavatsaḥ ca gaṅgādevyai 'vṛṣalī'rti coditavān ityādi| anyacca, vinayaparijñānaṃ kathamapi na kṛtaṃ bhavati, duṣkaratvāt| sthūlakumāryoḥ sārdhaṃ ekabhūmau anavasthānavat udyameṣu ca antarāyabāhulyāt| yataḥ prakaraṇamidaṃ vividhaṃ bhavati||] (yaduta) cet bhadanta traividyaḥ trivarṣa-trimalaprahīṇaḥ, sa ca pañcabhirdharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ[na] syāt, tenā'pi aniśritena janapadacārikā caritavyā? nopālin ityuktam|| rakṣyaṃ cānena vinayagataṃ, dūreṇa dūraṃ apasārayatu enaṃ parihṛtatāsaṃpattyartham| yadadhyācārāt pareṣāṃ aprasādaḥ syāt tatparihārārtham| śikṣasu kṛtārtho'pi atrādaravān, gauravotpādanārtham| [śāsa] nasthityarthaṃ ca prasiddhatādyatikramo gacchati| kenacidatikrame sati iti dhvaṃso'nyathā śāsanasya saṃpadyate| tasmāt, yathaiva anyasya atra ananujñānaṃ tathaiva trividyasya|| niśrayagatam||
(iv) saṃgrāhyagatam
(103) mā'si tīrthyaḥ iti pravrajyārthaṃ upasaṃkrāntaṃ pṛcchet, upasaṃpādakāśca|| pṛcchet ityupādhyāyaḥ| pṛccheyuḥ iti pariṇātasya upasaṃ[pādakā i-] tyanena saṃbaṃdhaḥ| upasaṃpādakaireva sa praśnaḥ yo rahonuśāsakena, tanniyuktatvāttasya|| (104) na-anārādhitacittaṃ, utsṛjya śākyaṃ āgneyaṃ ca jaṭilaṃ, tīrthyaṃ pravrājayeyuḥ upasaṃpādayeyurvā|| śākyāgneyajātyoḥ nūnaṃ kiñcidāśayasabhāgyaṃ lakṣitam-'niyataṃ anayoḥ pratipattau satyāṃ bhā[vataḥ prati-]pattiḥ na kṛtakena " iti|| yataḥ etadanujñātamiti pratipattavyam-yacca uktaṃ-'dadāmyahaṃ jñātīnāṃ jñātiparihārami'ti, tatra jñātitvaṃ ananupaśyatāṃ eṣāṃ bhavataḥ pratipattiḥ bhaviṣyatīti bhagavatā'babuddham, tato jñātinimittaṃ-parihāro datta iti uktamiti| āgneyo'tra pravṛttaḥ agniparicaraṇakarmaṇi bhāvataḥ, tadāśaya [-pariśuddhau varta-] māno gṛhīta iti veditavyam, tadbhūtasya āśayavipatteḥ asaṃbhāvyatvāt|| kṛt etad tīrthya-anārādhitādi-tīrthyānta-varjaṃ[na]m iti śabdāt pūrvatīrthyaśabdaṃ varjayitvā, 'anārādhitacittaṃ' utsṛjya 'śākyaṃ āgneyaṃ ca jaṭilaṃ tīrthyaṃ' ityetacca anārādhitaśabdādi-tīrthyaśabdāntaṃ varjayitvā yadetad 'mā'si' ityādyu[ktaṃ ta-] tkṛt-saṃjñaṃ veditavyam| yatra 'kṛt' ityucyate tatra 'mā'si' iti pravrajyārthamupasaṃkrāntaṃ pṛcchet, uparsaṃpādakāśca na pravrājayeyuḥ upasaṃpādayeyurvā' iti uccāritaṃ pratipattavyam|| kṛt-pradeśā iti urdhvaṃ atraiva pravrajyāvastuni kṣudrakeṣu ca etadgatesu| tābhyāṃ ājīvatpitṛkasya tu anujñātasya vā mātāpitṛbhyāṃ anārocanamapi nirdoṣamiti pratipattavyam| tathā vā'jīvātpitṛke pṛcchāpāṭhaḥ-yasya tāvat bhadanta mātāpitarau kālagatau bhavataḥ tiryagyonigatau upasaṃpadgato yo vidhiḥ jñaptyādikaḥ tasya akṛtatvaṃ jānataḥ, kṛtatve'pi arūḍhatāṃ, yadyapi vidhikṛto na tūpasaṃpadrūḍhaḥ, ūnaviṃśati-varṣatā[di]nā doṣeṇeti| saṃghena sārdhaṃ dvitīyasya karmaṇaḥ 'trīṇi vā' ityetanna sūtritam?-yato naitanniyamakāri vacanam, api tu prabandhasyaitad pradarśanam| prabandhamārabhamāṇo dhvasyata iti| itarathā dve iti asya vyavasthānasya 'trīṇi vā' ityetad ucchvāsa iti vijñāyate|| tataśca kṛtrimametad prajñaptikaṃ, na dharmatayā vyavasthāyītyāpadyate ca|| atra ca grantho'pi| kathāvastuni syāt, yena vastunā steyasaṃvāsiko na pravrājayitavyo nopasaṃpādayitavyaḥ, tenaiva vastunā pravrājayitavyaḥ upasaṃpādayitavya syāt[iti cet] āha-yena dvau trayo vā poṣadhāḥ pratyanubhūtā bhavanti, ayaṃ na pravrājayitavyo nopasaṃpādayitavyaḥ| yena tu sakṛtpoṣadhaḥ anubhūto tamiti hastacchinnāḥ pādachinnāḥ ityevamādikaṃ pratikṣepaṃ evaṃ vidhānāmapi pradhārayet ityarthaḥ|| haridrā iva raktā keśā yeṣāṃ te haridrakeśāḥ| siṃhakeśā harikeśā|| nīlyā iva raktā keśā yeṣāṃ haritakeśāḥ|| janmanā eva śuklā keṣā yesāṃ te avadātakeśā, na tu palitinaḥ|| hastina iva yeṣāṃ keśā te nāgakeśā|| tāmrabhājanamiva ślakṣṇaṃ vigatakeśaśiro yeṣāṃ te akeśakāḥ|| yasya śirasi tasraḥ catasro vā sthūlavalayaḥ, yābhiḥ nimnonnataṃ lakṣyate, sa ghāṭośiraḥ|| yeṣāṃ piśvitamiva śarīraṃ vaipulavataḥ|| [pṛthagvat] saṃkṣiptakaṃ te vipātakāḥ|| yasya atisaṃkṣipte vartulākṣiṇī te saṃcūrṇākṣāḥ [=cullākṣāḥ?]|| śiraso'ntaḥ praviṣṭatvāt skandhasthāne akṣiṇī yasya asau skandhākṣaḥ|| lāṅgūlaṃ yasya prasravakaraṇaṃ ta[d yasya chinnaṃ] sa lāṅgūlachinnaḥ|| yesāṃ svalpenā'pi vyāpāreṇa viśiṣṭaśramotpattiḥ te'tikilāsinaḥ, klamasyaitadabhidhānam|| caturbhiśca chavivarṇaiḥ iti nīlapatīlohitāvadātaiḥ (ninditarūpāḥ)| ye evaṃvidhā varṇaviśeṣāḥ teṣāṃ eva pratikṣepaḥ na tu ye devānāmiva praśasyarūpāḥ|| evaṃ tāvat evaṃvidhānāṃ pravrājanādikaṃ pratikṣiptam| pravrajitopasaṃpannānāmeṣāṃ api saṃgraho na ityu padarśanāya āha|| (153) na jātikāyaduṣṭaṃ pravrajitaṃ upasthāpayet|| rathakārādikaṃ abhokṣyaṃ jātiduṣṭam| hastacchinnādikaṃ varṇataḥ saṃsthānato vā kāyena duṣṭaṃ| nopasthāpayet, vāsasthāne'pi antardāne, na anuparivāritvena ca, na kevalaṃ niśrayadāne| tathā ca bhikṣuṇā parṣad dūṣakaparṣad, na upasthāpayitavyā, upasthāpayati sātisāro bhavati| ityuktvā kiyatā parṣad dū[ṣakā] parṣad iti vaktavyā?| jātito varṇasaṃsthānena ca|| kathaṃ jātitaḥ?| asyeti ekopādhyāyaḥ, tasya| ekena vacasā iti ekaprajñaptyā| ki yato'nekasya ityāha| ātrayāṭ tribhyo yāvat yujyate, na pareṇa ityarthaḥ|| 'na gaṇo gaṇasya karmāṇi karoti' ityāgamāt|| kecit-aṃgīkṛtopādhyāyabhedaṃ atra granthaṃ kurvate 'labhyaṃ bhadanta ekakāle ekakṣaṇe ekena karmakārakeṇa ekayā jñaptyā dvābhyāṃ karmāṇi kartum? kṛtāni ca vaktavyāni? na ca saṃghaḥ tena sā tisāro bhavati'?-' labhyaṃ upālin sa cet karmakārako bhikṣuḥ pratibalo bhavati| upādhyāyānāṃ nāmaparikīrtanaṃ kartuṃ upasaṃpatprekṣāṇāṃ ca jñaptiṃ ca na hāpayati karma ca karoti' ityādi|| ārya-upālino dāsakaḥ pālakaśca śrāmaṇerakau sapremakau gatau, anyonyānurakṣayā'yugapat nopasaṃpādyau, [tasmāt pṛthak] dvau nopasaṃpadyate|| etannidānaṃ ekopādhyāyasya anekasya upasaṃpādanānujñāne, asmānnidānāt ekopādhyāyasya anekasyāṅgīkaraṇaṃ atra nidānāt dṛśyate| ityevaṃ aṅgīkṛtaṃ na caitaṃ prayujyate|| (155) ābhāvaḥ tulyasamayānāṃ parasparaṃ sāmocīkaraṇasya|| ekakāle ekakarmavācanopasaṃpāditānāṃ, pṛthagvā upasaṃpannānāṃ, yeṣāṃ tulyasamayaḥ tesāṃ sāmīcīkaraṇasya parasparaṃ abhāvaḥ| sāmīcī vandanā|| (156) saṃprāpte prāthamyam|| tulyasamayānāṃ lābhakarmādānoddeśādi sthānaṃ, yaḥ prathamaṃ saṃprāptaḥ 'yathāgatikayā lābho grahītavyaḥ' iti vacanāt tasya lābhagrahaṇe prāthamyam|| karmādāne yaḥ paścādāgataḥ tena pūrvakarma kartavyam paścādāgataḥ karmādāne prathamaṃ iti vacanāt| prathamaṃ kāryatādi ayamarthaḥ| lābhagrahaṇe prathamaṃ sthānaṃ saṃprāpte prāthamyam, karmādānakaraṇe pañcātsthānaṃ saṃprāpte prāthamyamiti|| (157) na dvyaṅgulādūrdhvaṃ āraṇyakaḥ keśān dhārayet|| (158) naitad arvāktvāt grāmāntikaḥ|| arvāgbhāvaḥ arvāktvam| etasya dvyaṅgulasya arvāgbhāvāt ūrdhvaṃ dvyarghāṅgula pramāṇatā saṃprāptā| yāvanna dhārayitavyā ityatra jñānaṃ bhava[tīti veditavyam| grantho']tra-āraṇyakena bhikṣuṇā dvyaṅgulā bālā dhārayitavyā, arvāk grāmāntikena iti|| kecit-'dvyaṅgulāvartā' iti dvyaṅgulasthāne adhīyate| yadyasya pāṭhasya dvyaṅgulapramāṇa āvarto yeṣāṃ ityarthaḥ, anarthāntaratvaṃ pūrvakātpāṭhāt|| atha dvyaṅgulasya āvarta ityayuktatā| liṅgāntardhānabhūtatvāt iyato dīrghatvam, asya yena ca nidānadoṣe śikṣā padaṃ prajñaptaṃ taddoṣāpātasya ca tadavasthatvāt| yasmāt atiriktapañcāṅgulamettpramāṇaṃ, pravrajyākālikamuṇḍanādividhānāt parato'pi muṇḍanādiḥ karaṇīyatvaṃ nyāyyam| ityatra asya sthāne viniveśanam|| (159-162) na golomakān keśān chedet|| muktvā vraṇasāmantakam|| na cūḍāṃ kārayet|| na saṃbādhi-[pradeśe] romakarma kārayet|| iti|| na kārayediti anuṣaṅgaḥ| saṃbādha-pradeśo guhyasthānam|| (163) kārayet vraṇanimittaṃ arūḍhau anyathā vijñān sthavirasthavirān avalokyeti|| arūḍhau anyatheti-bhagavānāha-'kaṣāyaiḥ (pañcabhiḥ tataḥ) śodhayitavyam| paścāt yadi svāsthyaṃ na bhavati, sūtradhara-vinayadhara-mātṛkāḍharān bhikśūn āpṛsṭvā saṃbādhaśmaśru kārayitavyam' ityatra granthaḥ|| tatra nidarśanametad, śocanavidhānaṃ yujyate iti prakārāntarāṇyapi cikitsitasya avaruddhāni, sthavirasthavirān bhikṣūnavalokya vraṇanimittaṃ prāṇakanimittaṃ vā saṃbādhe pradeśe romakarma kārayitavyamiti| apareṣāṃ atra granthaḥ, tatra pramukhaviditaṃ kṛtamiti eta davalokanam| dvābhyāṃ ca vṛddhābhyāṃ pramukhatvaṃ śīlato dharmavinayābhijñatayā ca, ityubhayamapi etad avalokyagataṃ saṃgṛhītam vijñātaṃ tatra| piṭakadharatvavacanaṃ vijñānam| prāṇakanimittaṃ atra vraṇagataprāṇakābhiprāyaṃ yujyate, na yūkādyabhiprāyam| asya ca vraṇanimittatvenaiva antaḥkṛtatvamiti na gṛhītam|| (164) na aṅganāḍīmapi [tannimittaṃ] kārayet|| atannimittaṃ iti avraṇanimittaṃ| jaṅdhāmuṇḍanaṃ aṅganāḍī||(165) na anyatra kāye|| iti|| saṃbādha-aṅganāḍībhyāṃ anyatra kāye grīvātaḥ prabhṛti yaḥ kāyānuvyavahāraḥ tatra eṣa romakarma-pratiṣedhaḥ| tasmānnānena keśaśmaśruṇo'pi kartavyatāpratiṣedhaḥ| nāsāromṇaḥ śātanasya abhūdvacanaṃ iti prasiddhe pratyayaḥ|| mātṛkā yāmatra granthaḥ-keśaśmaśrū sthāpayitvā tadanyeṣu aṃgapratyaṃgeṣu roma na śātayitavyam| yaḥ śātayet duskṛtaḥ syāt āpattiḥ iti|| (166-168) kṣuradhārakaṃ vā nakhacchedaṃ bhajeta vāsīmukhaṃ vā| naiṣāṃ mṛṣṭiṃ bhajet|| bhajeta lekhaṃ malāvakṛṣṭyai| na cīvareṇa keśaśmaśrū avatārayeteti|| upariprāvaraṇasya atra grahaṇaṃ yujyate, na antarvāsasaḥ| sarvasya ca na saṃghāṭi-uttarāsaṃgayoḥ eva| atra paribhuktasya anyadupariprāvaraṇaṃ yujyate| ityatra pratikṣepanimittasya vyavasthāpanāt|| (169) dhārayet keśapratigrahaṇam|| iti cīvaraṃ keśapratigrahaṇam, tadarthameva yasya upayogaḥ| pratigṛhyante anena keśāḥ iti tu niruktiḥ| cīvaramiti kuta etad, 'cīvaraṃ keśapratigrahanaṃ adhiṣṭhānaṃ' iti adhiṣṭhānamantre vacanāt| kathaṃ puna etad vijñāyate prāvaraṇārthamiti? na punaḥ tatraiva keśānāmavatāraṇārthamiti| abhāve saṃkakṣikābhidhānāt| apratikṣepaṃ hi saṃkakṣikāyāṃ keśāvatāraṇam|| (170) abhāve saṃkakṣikayā|| keśapratigrahaṇasya cīvarasyābhāve saṃkakṣikayā āvṛtayā keśaśmaśrū avatārayet|| (171) na saṃstare| iti na keśaśmaśrū avatārayet| nidāneṣvapi ādāveva nakhacchedanam iti etadante granthaḥ|| (172) na yatra sāṃdhika-saṃmārjanīnipātaḥ|| iti vihārādhikārikametad|| (173-174) avatārayeta prāsādādau jīrṇo glāno vā vātātapavarṣeṣu ca|| taṃ pradeśaṃ parikarmayet|| niṣkeśatvaṃ nirudakatvaṃ ca parikarmaṇaḥ| tadyathā saṃpadyate tathā karaṇīyam|| (175) saṃkirṇe bālocchāraṇam|| sasaṃkāre pradeśe ityarthaḥ|| (176) evaṃ nakhacchedanam|| na saṃstare ityādeḥ eṣo'tideśaḥ| keśapratigrahe nipuṇagrāhiṇī kriyamāṇā bhūmau kṛtā bhavati| tasmāt nātracchedanena yatra sāṃdhika-saṃmārjanī nipātaḥ| ityasya atikrāntatvaṃ, parikarmabhavyatā vā bhūmeḥ| keśaśmaśru-avatāraṇe asya parihārasya asaṃbhavo veditavyaḥ|| (177) na anadhiṣṭhitā bhikṣuṇī eṣā purūṣeṇāvītarāgā keśāṃśchedayet|| eṣā iti bhikṣuṇī avītarāgā iti 'anāpattiryadi vītarāgā syāt' ityatra granthaḥ| chedayeta iti muṇḍanasya caitadatriavaṃ vacanam| atha mahāprajāpatī gautamī pañcabhiḥ śākyāyanikāśataiḥ sārdha svayameva keśāṃśchedayitvā kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇī ācchādya iti keśacchedanasya uktasya '[evameva tvaṃ gautamī muṇḍā śobhanā]' iti muṇḍātvena abhidhānāt; dīrghatvāt keśānāṃ anya-muṇḍane sanimittametadabhidhānam| anyatra anuvyavahāraḥ-avītarāgā bhikṣunī bhikṣuṇyā anadhiṣṭhitā na [puruṣeṇa] keśāṃśchedayet ityarthaḥ|| (178) saṃrajyamānāṃ adhiṣṭhātrī samanuśiṣyāt-'smṛtimupasthāpaya kimasmin klevare sāramasti' iti| saṃrajyamānāṃ iti kalpake tāṃ bhikṣuṇīm|| (179) mātṛsaṃjñā bhaginyā duhituśceti kalpake [upasthāpaya] iti| saṃrajyamānāṃ adhiṣṭhātrī samanuśiṣyāt -mātrādisaṃjñāmupasthāpaya iti||(180) snānaṃ kṛte'tra kurvīta iti|| atra iti keśaśmaśru-avatāraṇe|| (181) pacāṅgikaṃ vā śaucamiti|| kalpāntara-upādānārthaṃ vā śabdaḥ|| satyapi pānīyasya saṃbhave, kalpata evaitad-'bhikṣuṇā keśapratigrahaṇaṃ dhārayitavyam, snātavyaṃ vā, antato hastapādā prakṣālayativyāḥ' ityatra granthaḥ|| (182) na nagnaṃ snāyāt iti| trimaṇḍalācchāditatve paripūrṇaṃ anagnatvam| yāvat trimaṇḍalācchādite romāṅgajātayoḥ chāditvam, tāvat chāditatvena sarvasya (aparasya) aparihartavyatā iti etad atra sāmarthyāt gantavyam|| (183)na bhikṣuṇī puruṣatīrthe snāyāt, na strītīrthe cūrṇena iti|| puruṣatīrthe bhikṣaṇyāḥ snānasya eva pratiṣedhaḥ| strītīrthe tu mudgacūrṇādinā, kevalasya (prādeśika snānasya) aprativedhaḥ| 'dvādaśavargiṇyaḥ strītīrthe snānti, gṛhapati-patnīnāṃ snāntīnāṃ auddhatyaṃ kurvanti, māṣacūrṇādi kṣipanti| bhagavānāha-na bhikṣuṇyā strītīrthe cūrṇena snātavyam' ityatra granthaḥ|| (184) kalpyate mudgādeḥ gandhaparibhāvitam cūrṇamiti|| sarvādhikāritā'tra|| (185-186) pratigrahaṇamasya|| bhaiṣajyaparibhāvitasya ca glānena|| iti, 'kalpayate' ityanuṣaṅgaḥ|| (187) na bhikṣuṇī yoṣiti cūrṇaṃ kṣipet|| snānakāle api anyadā'pīti-viśeṣāparigrahāt pratipattiḥ nagna (tva)-parihāraprasaṃgena ucyate|| (188) no'grathitādhastyapūrvapaścimanivasitānto niśrayaṇīmadhirohet|| nivasitasya vāsasaḥ pūrvapaścimādhastyaḥ adhastādbhavāntaḥ agrathito yena ityarthaḥ| kaupīnaduṣṭi-parihāram etad| vṛkṣādyadhirohe'pi ca kaupīnadarśanasya saṃvittiḥ| tasmāt nidarśanamatra niśrayanī-grahaṇaṃ pratipattavyam| āpadi adhirohe yatpratīkārārthaṃ yo'dirohaḥ tasya cet nivasanasyaiva grathanenoparodhaḥ anurakṣyatvamasya| na cenneti, vṛkṣādhirohānujñānāt gantavyam|| (189) na anyadā evaṃ syāt|| niśrayaṇyadhirohaṇād anyasminkāle na grathitādhastyapūrvapaścima nivasitāntena [sāmīcīsthitena] bhavitavyamityarthaḥ| antarmukhasya kaupīnapakṣatvaṃ iti tannāgnyasya atra pradeśe pariharaṇamucyate| (190) na apraticchanna-vaktrāya avṛtiṃ bhajeta|| apraticchannasya vastrādinā yā avṛtiḥ apraticchannavaktrāya avṛti stāṃ na bhajet| 'vijṃbhamāṇena bhikṣuṇā hastena mukhaṃ pratichādayitavyam' ityatra granthaḥ| nidarśanamatra hasto vyavatiṣṭhate|| vijṛṃbhaṇaṃ ca kāmakāro yadvidhāraṇaṃ pratītamadhikṛtya etadevamuktam| asati āśaktau yadapāvaraṇaṃ na tadbhajane doṣaḥ|| (191-192) dhārayet snātraśāṭākam|| āsaktiḥ dvipuṭe prāṇakānām| saktiriti vaktavyaṃ granthacchāyā-yāṃ saṃpattyarthaṃ ā-iti upādānam| kāraṇādeśametad| yasmāt saktiḥ dvipuṭe vāsasi prāṇakānāṃ, tasmānna saprāṇake'mbhasi tadvidhena vāsasā snātavyamityarthaḥ|| (193) traicīvariko'pi iti|| dhārayet snātraśāṭakamityunubandhaḥ| grantho'tra-"bhagavānāha-traicīvarikeṇa bhikṣuṇā snātraśātako dhārayitavyaḥ" iti|| kecit 'anadhiṣṭhāya dhārayitavyaḥ' ityadhī yate, tadyuktam| snātraśāṭakaṃ sametya anutpādite saṃkalpe naiḥsargikasya utthānāt niyataṃ eṣa saṃkalpo'tra utpādayitavyaḥ| asya cotpādane jātaṃ bhavati atra mānasasya adhiṣṭhānasya kartavyattvam| tataśca anyasyādhiṣṭhānasya karanaṃ yuktam, sukaratvāt vācikasya asmādeva anujñānāt na anenāsya samādānamraṃśo bhavatīti veditavyam|| (194) patrāṇi abhave dattvā purataḥ pṛṣṭhataśca pratigupte pradeśe snānamiti|| sarve na traicīvarikā eva| [atra granthaḥ]-apareṣāṃ snātraśāṭakasya prāptirnāsti, bhagavānāha-taiḥ patrāṇi purataḥ pṛṣṭhataśca datvā pratigupte pradeśe snātavyamiti aviśeṣeṇa etadabhihitam|| (195) mocanena saktasya prāṇinaḥ apagatiḥ|| ekapuṭāt atyāsaktiḥ dvipuṭe prāṇakānāmiti ataḥ pratipattiḥ| nāsya śāṭake dvipuṭatvasya abhāvaḥ| tasmāt nānena saprāṇake'mbhasi snātavyamityatra sthitaṃ veditavyam|| (196) udakabhrame vihāre etaditi|| vihāre cediti etad snānaṃ kriyate udakabhrama eva kartavyaṃ nānyatra|| (197) cchoraṇaṃ ca dravasya|| iti pādaprakṣālanādikasya dravasya udakabhrama eva cchoraṇaṃ nānyatra|| (198-199) karaṇaṃ snātraśālikāyāḥ|| [asyāṃ] iṣṭakāstārasya ādānam|| [asyāṃ] snātraśālikāyāḥ|| (200) udakabhramasya mokṣaḥ| syandanikāyāḥ śocanam|| ityanubandhaḥ| snātiḥ snānam| syaṃdanikā iti pratividheḥ ākhyānametad| bhrame snāne sati anutthānaṃ syandanikāyāḥ| na tu bhrame eva snātavyamiti niyamabhūtaṃ, snānārthatvāt śālikāyāḥ|| (202) neṭṭanodgharṣeṇa kāyaṃ śodhayet pādābhyāmanyam|| na iṭṭanena bhikṣuṇā kāyo gharṣitavyaḥ iti granthaḥ | anyamiti pādavyatiriktam| tayoḥ tu apratiṣedhaḥ|| (203) nidarśanametad tīkṣṇaśauṭīrayoḥ| īṭṭanam kīdṛśasya dravyasyetyāha-tīkṣṇaśastrakādi, śautīraṃ ṣaunakādi cittavikārasaṃpādanāt| ājñaptaṃ bhagavatā-na iṭṭanena kāyo ghṛṣitavya iti| bhikṣavaḥ śuktyā ghṛṣanti, bhagavānāha-muṇḍaśuktiḥ karanīyā ityatra granthaḥ| atra hi tīkṣṇatvāt śukteḥ pratiṣedhaḥ| tasmāt nidarśanaṃ iṭṭanam| anyasyāpi tīkṣṇasya śauṭīrasya ca dravyasya tenā pi kāyo no ghṛṣitavyaḥ|| (204) agninā śukteḥ śodhanam|| pratāpanamātrakaṃ ca agninā asyāḥ śodhanam| anyathā śukternāśāt|| (205) na kiñcitkenacit āmuṣṭicailavartte(ḥ) bhikṣuṇī uddhṛṣet|| na kiṃciditi kāyam, mṛduṣtrīśarīram, mṛduślakṣṇādapi tasmin vikārasya saṃpattiḥ| sunikṛṣṭenāpi etatkaraṇe striyaḥ sauṭīrapitatvamiti bhikṣuṇīṣu sarvapratiṣedhaḥ bhavati| kiñcinmuṣṭi[taḥ] sukumārāntaraṃ vastramiti, muṣṭimātratvena uktvā cailavartteḥ vacanam|| (206) na anapagatasaṃbhāvakodakaḥ cīvarāṇi prāvṛṇvīta|| prāvriyamāṇacīvaravināśaparihārārthametad| tasmādeṣāṃ udakaṃ anapagataṃ yasya iti gatiḥ| yaḥ ādhānaṃ na icchetpratīkṣituṃ, taṃ prati uttarau vidhī|| (207-208) dhārayetkāyaproñchanam|| abhāve muhūrttaṃ utkuṭukena sthitvā snātraśāṭakena proñchanamiti|| yāvatā vā anena saṃpannena snātraśāṭakaproñchanārthasaṃpattiḥ tāvatā'sya yāvatyā kālamātrayā saṃpattiḥ tadupalakṣaṇamatra muhūrtaḥ| stokasya vā yasya tasya muhūrtamiti abhidhānametad| utkuṭukena sthitvā iti evaṃ āśu-apagamasya ambhasaḥ kāyāt saṃpattiḥ guptarūpaṃ caitadavasthānam| ato'sya [nāgnyasya] na yuktaṃ bhajanamityatra saṃśrayaṇam|| (209-210) pratiṣeveta jentākam|| karaṇḍasya karaṇaṃ uccharkare sādhu|| jentākārthaṃ āvāsaḥ karaṇḍakaḥ| udgataśarkaram, uccharkare pradeśe karaṇḍaḥ kartavyaḥ|| ityatra granthaḥ-'saṃpadyate anyapradeśe gatādapi ato aparipūrṇārthaḥ| uccharkare tu paripūrṇārthasaṃpādakatvāt sādhutvaṃ' ityarthaḥ| e [vama] trāpi 'sādhu' śabdaprayoge veditavyam| tatra karaṇḍe yatkartavyaṃ taddarśanārthamāha-(211) vahiḥ saṃvṛttasya antarviśālasya samudrākṛteḥ vātāyanasya mokṣo madhye|| karaṇḍagatabhittimadhye nā'dho nā'pyūrdhvamityarthaḥ|| (212) jālavātāyanaka-vāṭikā-cakrikā-ghaṭikā-sūcīnāṃ atra viniveśanam|| atra iti vātāyane|| (213) aja[padakada]ṇḍopasthāpanaṃ ca|| atra ityasya saṃbaṃdhopanayanārthaḥ 'ca'-śabdaḥ|| tena ajapadakena daṇḍena bandhaḥ|| paṭṭikā ityādeḥ pañcakasya sthāne-guḍa-mṛd-grahaṇam| tasmāt śeṣasya ato'tra sādhutvaṃ na ityāeḥ pūrvasyānuṣaṅgaḥ yathāsaṃbhavaṃ veditavyaḥ|| bhujyamānatve saṃskārasya pratyupayogaṃ upāyaḥ| tatra kiyatā kālena pātrasya ta[dasaṃskṛ] tatvaṃ, yena tapanārhatā, ityatra ucyate-|| (349) bhujyamānatve pākyatvaṃ māsaṣaṭkānte|| tadetad viśeṣoktaṃ-mārte yotyate-|| (350) mārta cet pakṣasya|| -ante pākyatvaṃ ityanuṣaṅgaḥ| abhujyamānatve'pi yathāyogaṃ pātrasya pratisaṃskaranaṃ anuṣṭheyam|| (351) varṣāścet, virukṣaṇa-mrakṣitatvena kāryāṃntarāle saṃyojyatvam|| prāṇyupaghānamantareṇa [a śakyatāyāṃ] adeyatve varṣāsu pākasya adeyatve avasthite, yāpanasya etadākhyānam| dvayoḥ upayogakālayoḥ madhyaṃ kāryāntarālam| tatra asya pātrasya virūkṣaṇena mrakṣitattvena ca saṃyojyatvam| kāryaṃ kṛtvā mrakṣayitvā sthāpayitavyam|| aparatra kāryakāle virūkṣayitavyaṃ ityevametatsaṃyojanaṃ ityarthatvāt gantavyām|| (352) pacanamasyā|| pātrasya|| (353) naitadātmanā kartu ayuktam|| pravrajitasya [ātmanā kartuṃ ayuktam] ityarthaḥ|| (354) kaṭāhakasya tadarthaṃ upasthāpanam|| tadarthamiti pākārtham| kīdṛśasyetyāha-|| tattvotpatteḥ| tadbhāvatattve kaṭāhakatvena eva yasyotpattiḥ, tadbhūtatayā eva yasya karaṇaṃ, na ghaṭādyavayavadvayena ityarthaḥ| kimasyaiva ekasya, na ityāha-|| (355) tattvotpatteḥ karparakasya vā||upasthāpanamityanubandhaḥ| yathāsya karparakāmena kaṭāhakasya saṃpādanārthaṃ sādhu ghaṭādeḥ bhedanakena [deśita tvāt]-|| (356) bhasmanā pūrayitvā sādhu bhedanaṃ ghaṭabhedanakena|| [kathamiti cet ghaṭabhedakena ityuktam]| lohamayasya etad kīlakasya nāma-|| (357) dhāraṇamasyeti|| ghaṭabhedanakasya|| (358) tena avacchādanaṃ apalāyidhūmam|| tena kaṭāhakena pātrasyā'vacchādanaṃ kīdṛśamityāha-apalāyīdhūmam| tadvidhaṃ etatkartavyaṃ yadvidheḥ dhūmo na palāyate ityarthaḥ| kiṃ aliptenaiva bahiḥ kaṭāhakena ityāha-|| (359) dattatuṣamṛttikābahila pena|| dattaḥ tuṣamṛttikayā bahirlepo yasmin tenetyarthaḥ| abhyantare kimadattena asya kasyacita dravyasya lepena ityāha -|| (360) piṇyākena gomayena vā liptābhyantareṇa|| kiṃ aśuṣkena dattālepena ityāha-||(361) upagataśoṣeṇa| kīdṛśyāṃ kimastarāyāṃ vā bhūmau nihitasya pātrasya anena avacchādanaṃ ityāha-|| (362) kṛtaparikarmāyāṃ bhūmau vā stṛtatuṣāyāṃ avakīrṇaṃ rūciradhūmakarakapiṇyākādidravyāyāṃ nihitasya adhobilam|| tuṣāṇāmupari rocanaśīla-dhūmakarakānāṃ piṇyākādīnāṃ dravyāṇāṃ avakīrṇamityarthaḥ| kathaṃ nihitasya ityāha-adho bilam| kimataḥ paraṃ kartavyamityāha-|| (363) gomayai| palālena vā avaguṇṭhya ādīpanam|| (364) suśītalasya apanayanamiti| pātrasya|| (365) āniṣpanna-raṃga saṃpatteḥ āvṛttiḥ|| tāvatpāko prarohasyeti bālaprarohasya| kasminpradeśe ityāha-| parivyaṃjanaṃ, vyaṃjanātsamantataḥ| ajñātau varṣāgrasya upāsaṃpādyasya aṃgīkaraṇam| aprajñāyamāne viṃśativarṣatve upasaṃpannibhittaṃ vyaṃjanasāmantakena romajanmano aṃgīkaraṇamityarthaḥ| vyajyate anena puruṣabhāvaḥ iti vyaṃjanam| puruṣendiryam|| (369) vyājena asya pratyvekṣaṇam|| asyeti parivyaṃjanaṃ romaprarohasya| kīdṛśena vyājenetyāha-|| (370) ūrdhvanāgadantaka-cīvaravaṃśastha bhāvāvatāraṇādinā| ucce nāgadantake cīvaravaṃśe'vatiṣṭhato vastrādeḥ bhāvasya avatāraṇa-āropaṇādinā|| (371) na upasaṃpatprekṣaṃ vṛkṣamadhirohayet| (372) na bahiḥ sīmāṃ preṣayet|| upasaṃpatprekṣamiti| avadarśana-upavicārāntaḥ atra sīṃā vyatiṣṭhate| kuto darśanopavicārāntaḥ upasaṃpādanasthānaṃ tatsthānāt| uccalitāyāṃ upasaṃpādanasthānam| tadarthaṃ vyāpṛtāt śāsanādhimuktāt śīlavataḥ ca bhikṣoḥ sopadhivāra-vihārasthānato gamane tanmārgapratipannāt| anyada vihāra-taditikaraṇīya-caṃkramaṇa-atināmanasthānagatāt-(373) darśanopavicāra enaṃ apakāsane sthāpayeyuḥ ganābhimukhaṃ pragṛhītāṃjalim|| enamiti upasaṃpatprekṣam| apakāsana iti rahonuśāsakagatasya karmaṇo aśravathaṃ saṃghamadhyāt asya pṛthakjñāpanaṃ yattadatra apakāsanagrahaṇena gṛhītam| apakāsane gaṇābhimukhaṃ pragṛhītāñjalīḥ saṃghamadhyāt anapakāsito na kartavyaḥ ityarthaḥ|| (347) na gṛhiṇo niśrayānārocayet|| (375) na upasaṃpannamātrāya na ārocayet|| niśrayāniti vartate| 'gṛhaniśritāya niśrayaṃ na ārocayet'-yāvat 'apravrajitāya' iti| asya paścāt ayaṃ granthaḥ-anyatamaḥ brāhmaṇadārakaḥ pravrajyopasaṃpadārthaṃ upādhyāyena yāvatpiṇḍapātaṃ gaccha iti ājñaptaḥ, tena ājñapte sati svabhikṣā(yācana) hetunā udvignaḥ, kiṃ pravrajitenā'pi piṇḍapātaḥ kartavyaḥ iti śikṣāṃ pratiṣedhate, bhagavatā garhitvā uktam-"upasaṃpannamātrāya catvāraḥ niśrayā ārocayitavyāḥ" ityatra saṃgraho'yam|| (376)yatra niśrayā'bhāvaḥ tatra poṣadhopāsanā-niśrayapratijñā-grahaṇaṃ ca na kartavyam|| (377) niḥśrayapratijñāgrahaṇaṃ pūrvaṃ nānurakṣitavyam|| niśrayābhāve "pratijñāyāḥ pāścāt arthasiddhiḥ dṛśyate' (iti) etadvacanaṃ dṛṣṭam, tatra purvakasmin sati paścāt pratijñā kartavyā iti jñāyate, iti veditavyam|| (378) paścādapi dvimāsatodhikam|| paścāditi grahaṇam| dvimāsato'dhikaṃ niśrayā'bhāve na rakṣitavyam ityasya anupratiṣedhārthaṃ 'api'-śabdaḥ| dvimāsaṃ nāśrityāpi niśritaṃ kartavyaṃ ityatra jñātavyam|| (379) vastu-karma-upasthāpakaparihāreṇa enaṃ parīccheyuḥ|| evaṃ iti vastu, vastvādiparihāraiḥ enaṃ vastu parīccheyuḥ| vastu-parihāraḥ iti niśraya-gṛhe parihāraḥ| niśrayārhasaṃghe pudgalabahulatvāt parīccheyuḥ, ityalam vistareṇa|| (380) daharamadhyeṣu abhāve vṛddhataramāpṛcchet|| abhāve iti niśrayasya| 'varṣāvāse aniśritaḥ, ityukte vacane niśritānāṃ madhye ekavarṣīyaṃ ācāryakālamatītya varṣā-vicchedāt vihāre aniśritya gatānāṃ vihāre anāśrayaḥ api na kartavyaḥ, kṛtvā tu sātisāro bhavati| atha ca yasteṣu ativṛddhaḥ sa praṣṭavyaḥ| tadanantaraṃ pravāritena ācāryaparihāraḥ kartavyaḥ| uktagranthe etad saṃgṛhītaṃ bhavati| arthataḥ(?) tesāṃ vṛddhataro daharaḥ sa niśritaḥ| vṛddhatarastatra dahareṇa prārthito bhavati, 'niścaye aniśrita' iti veditavyam|| (381) bhāve'pi upaniśrayatvena|| iti niśraye| bhāve'pi āśraya sya āśraye| dahareṣu vṛddhataraḥ praṣṭavyaḥ| atrāyaṃ granthaḥ -"upaniśrayatvena ayameva upādhyāyasamaḥ bhavati| ayameva tena praṣṭavyaḥ| ayameva tasya śikṣito bhavati, paṭhito'pi pāthito bhavati" iti pravrajyāvastuni nirmāṇe (?) uktam|| (382) na anavalokya tajjātīyaṃ parikarmayet tena vā ātmānam|| atra tajjātīyaṃ nikāyāntara-pravrajitaṃ jñātaṃ āśaṃkitaṃ vā|| (383) nirdoṣaṃ abhāve [niśrayārhasya] pravṛttaparyeṣaṇasya aniśritasya vā'pi|| nirdoṣamiti nirapavādam| abhāve iti āśrayasya| nirapavādaḥ kasminniti cet-tadarthaṃ pravṛttapareṣaṇa ityādyuktam|| kiyatkālamiti cet-||(384) āpañcarātraniṣṭhānāta|| ityuktam| yāvatpañcarātraparyantamityrathaḥ| yāvatpañcarātratvaṃ hi 'lābhe arhatvam'| atra granthaḥ nidānāt-'aniśirtaṃ deśaṃ, upāli', yāvat gatvā parīkṣya pañcarātramupādāya'|| (385) arhatvaṃ ca lābhe|| ityuktaṃ bhavati|| tadapi apratihatasaṃbaṃdhe niśrayaparyeṣaṇe ceti|| (386-387) viśramya āgantuko dvitīye tṛtīye vā anhi niśrayaṃ gṛhṇīta|| na ekāhasya arthe|| iti niśrayaṃ gṛhṇīta ityetena anubandhaḥ|| (388) anyaṃ asāṃnidhye niśritasya āpṛcchet|| niśrayakṛtena 'niśritaḥ'| eṣa karmaṇi ka-(=ktaḥ) (pratyayaḥ) niśrayatvena grahaṇe ityarthaḥ|| (389) nirdoṃṣama-nāpṛṣṭau gatasya karmādāne apara-tad-āgatau|| karmādānanimittaṃ gatasya aparasya karmādānasya āgamane doṣābhāvo'nāpṛṣṭau ityarthaḥ| vibhaṅgādetad śayanāsana-śikṣāpadāt| 'niśrayaṃ gṛhṇītaṃ' iti vartate|| [(390) na yasya tasyāntikāt||] (391) nirjñāya vṛtta-jñāna-parivārānugrāhakatvaṃ praśnādinā asya grahaṇam|| vṛttaṃ ca jñānaṃ ca parivāraśca grāhakatvaṃ ca anuvādanādau pravartamāna tāṃ asya pudgalasya praśnena anyena vā samācāreṇa jñātvā niśrayasya grahaṇamityarthaḥ| [katamena vidhinā iti cet]|| (392) saṃvaravat|| iti upāsaka-saṃvarādivat mantrādinā vidhinā ityarthaḥ|| pragṛhītāñjalinā saṃvarasya grahaṇam| asya tu-|| (393)-(394) prapīḍya ubhābhyāṃ pāṇibhyāṃ ubhau pādatalau| parīkṣya dānamiti|| niśrayasya kimasya saṃvaro rūḍhaḥ śaikṣaśca| śāsane sthāpayituṃ ityeṣā parīkṣā|| (395) putra-pitṛ-saṃjñayoḥ niveśanam|| yathāsaṃkhyaṃ niśrayaniśritābhyāṃ parasparam|| (396) tattve eva upādhyāye niśritatvam|| tadbhāvaḥ tattā, tacchabdena upādhyāyasya parāmarśaḥ| upādhyāye sthite upādhyayatā eva niśritvam-[atrāpi] karmaṇi ktaḥ| niśrīyata iti niśritaḥ, niśraya ityarthaḥ| tadbhāve niśritattvam|| (397) tasmāt agrahaṇamasya tatra|| asyeti niśrayasya| tatreti upādhyāye| etaduktaṃ bhavati-yasmādupādhyāyatve eva niśrayatvaṃ, tasmāt 'na yasya tasyāntikāt' niśrayo grāhyaḥ iti|| (398) nirapekṣatāsaṃpattiḥ ubhayoḥ āttaniśrayadhvaṃse kāraṇam|| ubhayoriti niśritaniśritavatoḥ sākṣeṇa krameṇa vā nirapekṣatāyāḥ saṃpattiḥ saṃpannatā| āttasya gṛhītasya niśrayasya dhvaṃse kāraṇam| ekatra nirapekṣa[tā-bhūte] tāvat niśrayasyānuvṛttiḥ yāvat aparo nirapekṣābhūtaḥ iti| parṣaṃtsaṃbaṃdha eṣa yā [niśrita-] niśritatva-upagatiḥ, na caikasya sāpekṣatāyāṃ parṣatsaṃbaṃdhasya apetatvam, ityeṣā atra vyavasthā|| [sahadarśaṃnāt upādhyāyasya udghāto niśrayo vaktavyaḥ]-(399) sannipattau anaupādhyāyena abhimatena pravṛttiḥ||yadukte upādhyāye saṃnihite nānyaḥ āprāptavyaḥ ityasya tatpratipādanam| [sāpe ] kṣatve parṣatsaṃbaṃdhāpagamasya| upādhyāyagatāt niśrayādanyo niśrayaḥ anaupādhyāyaḥ| sannipatanaṃ sannipattiḥ, tena sannipattau satyāṃ abhimatena niśrayeṇa niśritasya pravṛttiḥ| yo'sya rocate tasya niśrayeṇa vastavyam ityarthaḥ|| (400)tenaiva tena|| tena upādhyāyagatena niśrayena sannipāte, tenaiva upādhyāyena pravṛttiḥ| [nāstyatra kādācitkaṃ akādācitkaṃ ca]|| (401) nirantaraṃ duṣṭavā upādhyāyaṃ āsanaṃ muñceta|| nidarśanaṃ upādhyāyaḥ, anyatrā'pi niśraye vidheḥ vyavasthānāt|| (402-403) trirdivasena niśrita upasaṃkrāmet tadvihārasthaḥ|| araṇyavāsī krośe cet pratyaham|| yadi krośe tadaraṇyaṃ bhavati, yatra niśrayo bhavati pratyahamāgatya upasaṃkrāmet ityarthaḥ|| (404-405) pañcaṣaiḥ ahobhiḥ krośapañcake|| poṣadhe ca ardha-tṛtīyeṣu yojanesu|| ataḥ paraṃ eka [sīmā tva]-syābhāvāt niśrayatvasyābhāvo veditavyaḥ|| (406-409) na niśritaṃ avasādanārthaṃ nāvasādayet|| pañcāvasādanā-|| anāsāyo, anavavādaḥ, upasthānadharmābhiṣaiḥ

dusprāvṛto anivasto vā ityedarthaṃ-|| (533) dusprāvṛtatve durnivastatāyāṃ vā sauṣṭhavārthaṃ anayoḥ nimittaṃ asmai kurvīta|| anayoḥ iti duṣprāvṛtatā-durnivastatayoḥ| nimittamasmai iti yo'sau duṣprāvṛto durnivasto vā|| (534) aprativedhe anantareṇa kārayet|| yadi asau durnivastaḥ saṃghasthavireṇa kriyamāṇaṃ nimittaṃ na pratividhyati, tato yastasyā'nantaraḥ tena kārayet|| (535) asaṃpattau svayam|| evamapi sauṣṭhavakāraṇasya asaṃpattau svayameva kārayet| nimittasya aprativedhe vacanena kārayet|| (536) na enāna saṃ [lā] payet navakān| yeṣāṃ sa tatra saṃghasthaviraḥ-|| (537) yatraiṣāṃ vihārāraṇyayoḥ vṛttiḥ tadvṛttaṃ grāhayet [niyuñjīta ca]|| yeṣāmiti navakānām| tadvṛttamiti vihāravṛttaṃ araṇyavṛttaṃ ca| niyuñjīta ceti, na kevalaṃ tadvṛttaṃ grāhayet, api tu tasya vṛttasyānuṣṭhāne (538) āgantukaḥ pratyavekṣya ā[vā] sikānāṃ ārocayet śayanāsanārtham|| śayanāsanārthaṃ āgantukasaṃghasthaviraḥ pratyavekṣeta, yeṣāṃ asau saṃghasthaviraḥ āvāsikānāṃ, ārocayet śayanāsanārtham|| (539) gamiko dik-sārtha-āvāsa-śayanāsana sahāyakāṃścaglānye na-sahāyitvena tolayitvā prakramet|| gamikaḥ saṃghasthaviraḥ| gamikānāmiti arthātpratipattiḥ-yasyāṃ diśi gantavyāṃ yena sārthena mārgeṇa ca ya āvāsaḥ tatra ca gatasya śayanāsanaṃ tad sarvaṃ buddhyā yuktāyuktatayā saṃtolya, sahāyakāṃśca glānye sati na kenacit kaścitparityaktavyaḥ, ityevaṃ tolayitvā tato yathābhimatasthānasaṃpādanārthaṃ prakramedityarthaḥ|| (540) sarvaṃ paścāt mā kasyacit kiṃcit pramuṣitamiti apetya ādūraṃ utsmārayet|| saṃghasthavira eva|| (541) anuddhatān anunnaḍḍatve na[va]kān pratiṣṭhāpayet|| anupaśamaḥ auddhatyam, stabdhatvaṃ [unnaḍatvaṃ] tadviparyaye pratiṣṭhāpayedityarthaḥ|| (542) kuśalaṃ ca upagatān sarvaḥ sarvān iti|| anuddhatānanunnaḍḍatve pratiṣṭhāpayet ityanuṣaṅgaḥ| na gamikaḥ sthavira eva, api tu anye'pi| na ca navakāneva api tu anyānapītyarthaḥ|| (543) saṃjānīta| gamikaḥ saṃghasthaviraḥ|| saṃghacaryā-īryā-upadeśa-uddeśādiṃ-bhaktalābha-glānasaṃvidhānādi-karanīya-saṃpādanena anu-[gṛ]hṇīta|| caryā-gocaraḥ| īryāpatha-īryā| tayorupadeśaḥ, ayaṃ gocaraḥ ayamagocaraḥ evaṃ gantavyamityādi| uddeśādi ityatra svādhyāyanikādīnāṃ ādiśabdena grahaṇam|| (544) varṣopagato anusaṃjñāya vihāraṃ apratisaṃskurvataḥ saṃskārayet, saṃskurvato abhyutsāhayet|| (545) parṣadgatān sarvaḥ kathaiṣitāyāṃ anulomikadharmopasaṃhāreṇānugṛhṇīta|| sa cet parṣadgatāḥ kathāṃ eṣante tato yo yasyānukūlo dharmopasaṃhāraḥ tena anugṛhṇīta| sarvaḥ iti saṃghasthaviraḥ, na ca varṣopagatasaṃghasthavira eva|| (546) tūṣṇītve ra[tā]n upekṣeta|| tūṣṇībhāvaḥ tūṣṇītvam| āryaḥ atra tūṣṇīṃbhāvo'bhipretaḥ, na maunamātram|| (547) gṛhiṇaḥ upagatān bhaktān saṃvibhājayet|| yuktameṣāṃ bhaktaṃ dātumiti| bhikṣūn bodhayitvā yadi te bhikṣavaḥ saṃghasthavireṇa uktāḥ saṃvibhāgaṃ na kurvanti, te vā gṛhiṇo bhoktuṃ necchanti tataḥ-|| (548) akaraṇe aniṣṭau vā dharmyāmetāṃ kathāṃ kṛtvā idamasmākaṃ saṃvidyate iti brūyāt|| (549) parṣadaṃ tadvān sarvaḥ pratyavekṣeta|| sarvaḥ parṣadvān, na saṃghasthaviraḥ eva ityarthaḥ|| (550) mudhācāriṇaṃ nigṛhṇīyāt|| sarvaḥ parṣadvān ityanuṣaṅgaḥ| yathā na vṛthā kālamatināmayati, na nirarthikāṃ pravrajyāṃ karoti tathā kartavyamityarthaḥ|| (551) gamanādi atra yathā etatkuryāt|| evaṃ gantavyaṃ, evaṃ sthātavyaṃ ityādi saṃniveśāpekṣaḥ 'ādi'-śabdaḥ|| 'atra' iti parṣadi| 'yathā etad' iti yathā parṣad, parṣadanurūpaṃ ityarthaḥ|| (552) a-nānātiryak-kathaḥ syāt|| atra iti vartate| dharmavinayādapakrāntā'pārśvena asya vartinī, tiryak kathā, nānākathāviprakīrṇāḥ|| (553-554) na puraḥ paścācchamaṇo gacchet|| na tiṣṭhediti|| purataḥ paścāt (vā) śramaṇe na tiṣṭhedityartha|| (555) ukto brūyāditi|| nānuktena kiṃcidvaktavyam|| (556) saṃpādayedveti|| yadasya ucyate puraḥśramaṇena tatsaṃpādayet ityarthaḥ|| (557) na antarākathāṃ avapātayet iti|| puraḥśramaṇe kathāṃ kurvāṇe, na antarā-kathāṃ kuryādityarthaḥ|| (558) adharmaṃ bhāṣamāṇaṃ| (iti) puraḥśramaṇaṃ| prativadet|| (559-560) dharmaṃ anumodeta|| saṃpannadhārmikaṃ lābhaṃ pratigṛhṇīta|| iti paścācchramaṇaḥ|| etatpaścāt-śramaṇavṛttam||

kulopasaṃkramiṇo vṛttamucyate|| (561) anunnaḍaḥ| iti sarvaḥ| kule syāt anunnaḍaḥ anavasthitaḥ|| gṛhādapakramitukāmatā, anavasthitatvam|| (562) avakṣiptacakṣuriti|| viṣayebhyaḥ pratisaṃvṛtacakṣurityarthaḥ|| (563) dharmyāṃ gṛhibhyaḥ kathāṃ kuryāt|| (564)dāna-dama-saṃyama-brahmacaryavāsopoṣadha-śaraṇa-gamana-śikṣāpadagrahaṇeṣu enānniyuñjīta|| enāniti gṛhiṇaḥ| damo vaśīkaraṇam, vaśīkṛtatvaṃ cendriyāṇāṃ kāyavācośca saṃyamo'visaraṇaṃ eṣām, vinayanaṃ viniyatāvasthānam| brahmacaryavāsaśca iti pravrajitavṛttam, gṛhitve ca yāvajjīvikā grāmyadharmāt prativiratiḥ|| (565) sarvatra-āpattimukhabhūte prasthāne smṛtaḥ pratipadyeta|| smṛta iti āpattiṣu ityarthāt gatiḥ| kula[prave] śādau yadgamanādiprasthānaṃ āpatti-utthānadvārabhūtaṃ, tatra tathā smṛtrupasthāpyā yathā na kiṃcidāpadyate|| (566) na na-śiṣṭaḥ anugama iti|| pratipadyeta ityanuṣaṅga| nānuśiṣṭo'yaṃ anubaddhaḥ, tena na pratipadyeta| na vilaṅghayeta asyānuśāsanīmityarthaḥ|| (567) ehi iti svāgatapūrva-priyālāpyabhigate syāditi|| ehi iti svāgatālāpī pūrvaṃ ca āgatālapanāt priyālāpī syādityarthaḥ| [abhi]gate iti gṛhiṇi pravrajite vā|| (568) uttānamukhavarṇaḥ| iti agahanāyamānaḥ|| (569) smitapūrvaṃgama iti|| smitena prathamaṃ gantā, sāṃmukhyasya dātā ityarthaḥ|| bhavati sāntare'pi prasthāne sasmitatvamiti, āha-|| (570) vigatabhrukuṭiḥḥ|| (571) gṛhī cedabhyāgataḥ, dharmyāṃ asmai kathāṃ kuryāt|| (572) [anāgacchati atra grāmāntikaḥ saṃraṃjanīyaṃ yathā śākti pravartayet]|| [anāgacchati iti gṛhini| grāmāntiko bhikṣuḥ| saṃraṃjanīyaṃ bhojanādinā] yathāśakti pravartayet|| (573) pānīyā'sanamupasthāpayet|| āraṇyake'pi, pānīyaṃ āsanaṃ ceti vigrahaḥ|| (574) saṃmārga-śayanāsanaprajñapanapānīyasthāpana-cāraṇa-bhaktaniḥsargān navakaḥ kuryāt|| yatra tatra samāgame samāgame sarvametattena navakena kartavyam|| (575) upagacchet vilomāṃ parijanakriyāṃ, na cet sva-paropaghātāya|| upagacchediti adhyupekṣeta| na cet abhyupagamyamānā ātmanaḥ paresāṃ vā upadhātāya bhavati|| (576) asmai cet-|| parijanasya sā kriyā upaghātāya cet|| śaktau satyāṃ samucchidya enāṃ-vilomāṃ kriyāṃ anyām|| dharmyāṃ-|| kriyām|| utpādya tathā-|| parijanaṃ|| saṃjñāpayet|| (577) bhaṅge'praroge vā tannidānaṃ parijanasya pratisaṃskaraṇam|| iti tasyāṃ dharmyāyāṃ kriyāyāṃ utpādyamānāyāṃ tasya parijanasya yadi cittabhaṅgo bhavati durmanaskatā'praroge vā anyena prakramaṇaṃ tasya pratisaṃskaraṇam| tathā dānādinā pratisaṃskartavyam| parijane yathā'sya etad dvayaṃ na bhavatīti|| (578) aśaktatve anyena prakramaṇam|| iti samucchettumaśaktatve anyena prakramitavyam|| (579) na tu tatpratyayaṃ vigṛhya-|| parijanasya|| brūyāt|| (580) saṃghārāme'parādhyanstathā kuryādyathā svayaṃ grāhikayā grahaṇaṃ gacchet|| (581) agacchantamanārocya sahasā kasyacit kumāra-mitra-amātya-bhaṭṭa rājaputrebhyaḥ pādamūlikān grāhayitvā śuddhikāyāṃ parṣadi nihanyāt|| grāhayitvā iti bodhayitvā| śuddhikāparṣad yatra na daṇḍyate tatra nihanyāt parājayedityarthaḥ| kumārādināṃ tu yatprāgbodhanaṃ tadetadartham āparājitaḥ tadāśrayeṇa nāpakuryāt ityarthaḥ|| uktaṃ pravrajyāvastusambaddhaṃ bhikṣugatam||

bhikṣuṇīgatamidānīmucyate|| tatra yat pravrajyopasaṃpadoḥ 'puruṣaḥ' uktaṃ, tadeva striyāmiti aṅgokṛtya viśeṣaḥ ākhyāyate|| (582) bhikṣuṇī bhikṣusthāne|| saṃghaikadeśabhūtaḥ [ekabhū-] to vā upādhyāyarocakādi yatra bhikṣurukto bhikṣunī tatra draṣṭavyā ityarthaḥ|| kiṃ sarvasya bhikṣoḥ sthāne'tha kasyacidityāha-||(583) sarvasya pravrajyāyām|| pravrajyāviṣaye sarvasya upādhyāyādeḥ bhikṣoḥ sthāne bhikṣuṇī pratipattavyā| upādhyāyikārtha ārocanaṃ, śrāmaṇerīsaṃvaradāṇaṃ ityetatsarvaṃ bhikṣuṇībhireva anuṣṭhātavyam| nāstyatra bhikṣoradhikāra [ityasya] tat-pratipādanam|| (584) upasaṃpadi anyasya tadyācanādau karmakatuḥ|| upasaṃpadi na sarvasya bhikṣoḥ sthāne bhikṣuṇī draṣṭavyā| api tu upasaṃpadyācanādau, yaḥ karmakartā tato'nyasya bhikṣoḥ sthāne bhikṣuṇī upasaṃpadyācanātprabhṛti karmakārako'tra bhikṣureva na bhikṣuṇī iti uktaṃ bhavati| prāk tu upasaṃpadyācanā[yāḥ] bhikṣuṇī karmakārikā, yā'sau kevalabhikṣuṇīsaṃghamadhye brahmacaryopasthāne saṃvṛtiṃ dadāti iti|| (585) atrāca[ya]ssaṃghaḥ|| atra upasaṃpadi yācanādau bhikṣusaṃghaḥ|| ācayabhūtaḥ pratipattavyaḥ| ubhayasaṃghe sannipatite yācanātprabhṛti karma kartavya mityarthaḥ|| (586) kathanaṃ bhikṣuṇyāntaritaṃ āntarāyiko syāt vā|| ityāntarāyikakathane saṃghamadhye kriyete-ekaṃ kevalabhikṣuṇīsaṃghamadhye, brahmacaryopasthāna-saṃvṛtidānanimittadvayamubhayasaṃghamadhye|| dvayasyā'pi eṣa vidhiḥ pratipattavyaḥ| lajjānimittametaduktam-tasmāt kāmacāravijñānārthaṃ ādau kriyāpada prayogaḥ|| (587) śikṣamāṇātvaṃ nāma striyāmaparaṃ parva|| śrāmaṇerikātvaṃ bhikṣuṇītvaṃ ityetatparvadvayaṃ puruṣasādhāraṇam| idaṃ tu tṛtīyaṃ asyāḥ parva| tacca-|| (588) niśritāyāmeva|| śrāmaṇerikātva-bhikṣunītvābhyāṃ aviśeṣatāsaṃdarśanārthaḥ 'eva'śabdaḥ, yathā ime parvaṇī| niśritāyāmevaṃ etadapīti| ataśca upādhyāyikātvena bhikṣuṇīṃ kāñcicca, na tāmeva yāṃ śrāmaṇerikārthaṃ iti pratipattiḥ| tadevaṃ striyāṃ tritvamupādhyāyasya, puruṣe tu dvitvaṃ iti jātaṃ bhavati| kasyāmavasthāyāṃ śikṣamāṇātvaṃ nāma striyāṃ aparaṃ parva, kiyantaṃ vā kālaṃ asya caraṇaṃ ityāha-|| (589) śrāmaṇerikātva-bhikṣuṇītvayoḥ antarāle varṣadvayacaraṇasya kālaḥ|| tāvantaṃ kālaṃ ācaritvena upasaṃpādanaṃ ityevaṃ kālapari graho, na atrordhva caritavyametad vratamiti| tasmāt na pūrṇatve'sya kālasya prāgupasaṃpatteḥ aśikṣitavyaṃ asyāṃ śikṣāyām, dhvaṃso vā asya saṃvarasya iti pratipattavyam| ko'sya śikṣamāṇātva-prarohasya kāla ityāha-|| (590) tadūnopasaṃpatkālādyādikaḥ prarohasyeti|| upasaṃpatkālasyādiḥ| sa dvi[vi]dho'syāḥ| kumārikāyāḥ viṃśativarṣatvaṃ, gṛhoṣitāyāḥ dvādaśavarṣatvam| tena caraṇakālena varṣadvayena ūna-upasaṃpatkālādinā ādiḥ, [tadūnopasaṃ patkālādiḥ] asya kālasya so'yaṃ kālaḥ tadūnopasaṃpatkālādyādikaḥ| eṣo'sya śikṣamāṇātvaprarohasya kālaḥ| kumārikāyāḥ aṣṭādaśatvaṃ varṣāṇāṃ, gṛhīṣitāyāḥ daśavarṣatvamityarthaḥ|| grantho'tra bhikṣunīvibhaṅge-"yā gṛhoṣitā daśa varṣā, kumārikābhūtā vā aṣṭādaśavarṣā| tasyāḥ dve varṣe śikṣā saṃvṛtirdeyā" iti|| upasaṃpatkālasya atra vighau aṃgīkṛtasya viśeṣaḥ ākhyāyate-||(591) dvādaśatvaṃ varṣāṇāṃ upasaṃpadi-ūḍhatāyāṃ ādiḥ|| ūḍhatāyāṃ kṛtāvāhanatayā kṛtavivāhatāyāṃ, dvādaśatvaṃ varṣāṇāṃ upasaṃpadi kālasya ādiḥ|| (592) dānādutthānam| śikṣamāṇātvasya ityanuṣāṅgaḥ| kena [dā] nādityāha-|| (593) bhikṣuṇīsaṃghena|| kathamityāha-|| (594) śikṣāsaṃvṛtiriti dānam|| "iyaṃ evaṃnāmā śikṣāsaṃvṛtiṃ yācate, yāvattatsaṃghaḥ śikṣāsaṃvṛtiṃ dadāti" ityevamādeḥ mantrasya etadulliṃganam|| (595) anantaramasya śikṣotkīrtanam asya śikṣāsaṃvṛtidānasya anantaraṃ śikṣāyāḥ utkīrtanam -ṣaṇṇāṃ dharmāṇāṃ, ṣaṇṇāṃ anudharmāṇām|| tatra ṣaṭ dharmāḥ katame—
nai kākinī pravrajet mārgam| nadīpāraṃ na saṃtaret||
na spṛśet puruṣaṃ, tena| naukāgāre saha svapet||
sāṃcaritraṃ tu no kuryāt| avadyaṃ chādayenna ca||
ityete śikṣamāṇāyāḥ| ṣaṭ-dharmāḥ parikīrtitāḥ||
ṣaṭ anudharmāḥ katame|-
jātarūpaṃ na gṛhṇīyāt| na guhye roma śātayet||
na khanet pṛthivīṃ cā'pi| na chindyāt haritaṃ tṛṇam|
nā'pratigrāhitaṃ svādet| svādetsaṃnihitaṃ na ca||
uktā ime'nudharmāḥ ṣaṭ| śikṣamāṇeṣu śikṣaṇāt||
(596) na alabdhabrahmacaryopasthāna-saṃvṛteḥ upasaṃpad|| upasaṃpad atra brahmacaryam, tasyopasthānaṃ upajananaṃ, brahmacaryopasthānāya saṃvṛtiḥ brahmcaryopasthānasaṃvṛtiḥ, sā na labdhā yayā sā iyaṃ alabdhabrahmacaryopasthānasaṃvṛtiḥ, tasyāḥ| upasaṃpad na bhavati, [yasmāt] upasaṃpadārthā saiṣāṃ saṃvṛtiḥ| kṣetratāyāṃ niyamanaṃ ityato asyāṃ alabdhārthā nopasaṃpad| kadā asyāḥ dānam-(597) rahonuśāsanādūrdhvaṃ taddānam|| tasya brahmacaryopasthānasaṃvṛteḥ dānam|| kenetyāha--|| (598) saṃghena|| prakṛtatvāt bhikṣuṇīsaṃghena pratipattiḥ|| kiṃ evameva asyā dānamityāha-|| (599) pṛṣṭvā āntarāyikam|| tadevaṃ asyāḥ trayaḥ āntarāyikapraśnāḥ bhavanti| eko-rahonuśāsikayā bhikṣuṇyā, dvitīyaḥ-kevalabhikṣuṇī saṃghamadhye brahmacaryopasthāna-saṃvṛtyaṃgabhūtaḥ, tṛtīyaḥ ubhayasaṃghe yācitāyāmupasaṃpadi upasaṃpadaṅgabhūtaḥ| yacanamatra yācite| karmādānaṃ ityataḥ prāptam, tato'syāmapi yācitāyāmeva dānaṃ yuktarūpaṃ, ityāha-|| (600) yācitāyāmiti|| yācitāyāṃ brahmacaryopasthānasaṃvṛtau asyāḥ brahmacaryopasthānasaṃvṛterdānaṃ, na ayācitāyāmityarthaḥ|| (601) paṃcatvaṃ cīvareṣu|| bhikṣuṇyāḥ tricīvaraṃ, kusūlakaṃ saṃkakṣikā ca adhike|| (602) niśrayeṣu vivṛkṣamūlatvam|| vivarjitavṛkṣamūlatvaṃ, vṛkṣamūlaṃ varjayitvā anye trayo'syāḥ niśrayāḥ|| (603) aṣṭatvaṃ patanīyeṣu|| 'sparśaḥ paṃjaranikṣepaḥ praticchādo nivāraṇaṃ' ityadhikāścatvāraḥ|| (604) gurudharmārocanam|| aṣṭau gurudharmā ārocayitavyāḥ| te punaḥ-"upasaṃpad bhikṣubhyaḥ| pratipakṣaṃ cāvavādaparyeṣṭiḥ|| nā'bhikṣuka āvāse| kutraci varṣopagamanaṃ ca|| bhikṣorāpa tsucodanam| aroṣaṇaṃ vandanā ca navakasya|| ubhayagaṇāt mānāpyam| pravāraṇā ceti gurudharmāḥ||" kasmin kāle tadārocanamityāha-|| (605) patanīyaśramaṇakarakāntarāle|| (606) kṛt-ṣaṭke|| 'pūrvapravrajite' ti-ato yāvatkṛt iti asya yaḥ saṃjñāvān 'mā'si' iti pravrajyārthamupasaṃkrāntāṃ pṛcchet upasaṃpādakāśca na pravrājayeyurupasaṃpāda[ye]yurvā iti sa pratipattavyaḥ ityarthaḥ|| (607) nāsti asyāḥ prarohaṇadharmatā iti ca|| etacca atra vidhiṣaṭkaṃ pratipattavyam| nāśanaṃ evaṃvidhasya liṅginaḥ ityetatsarvādhikārikatvāt vaktavyam| punariheti veditavyam| katamatṣaṭkamityāha-|| (608)-(613) ubhayavyaṃjanā|| saṃbhinnavyaṃjanā|| sadāprasravaṇī|| alohinī|| naimittikī|| keyaṃ naimittikī nāma ityāha-|| nimittamātrabhūtavyaṃjanā tadākhyā|| nimittamātrabhūtaṃ vyaṃjanaṃ yasyāḥ tasyāḥ naimittikīti ākhyā, saṃjñā|| (614) pūrvapravrajitā| mā'si ubhayavyaṃjanā' yāvat 'mā'si pūrvaṃ pravrajitā' iti pravrajyārthamupasaṃkrāntāṃ pṛcchet|| yāvat'nāsti asyāḥ prarohaṇadharmatā' ityeṣa atra nayaḥ pratipattavyaḥ||

(615) na amanuṣyagatikauttarakauravakayoḥ savarasya kṣetratvam|| manuṣyagateḥ anyasyāṃ gatau upapannaḥ, manuṣyagatikatve'pi auttara-kauravakaḥ [ca]; naiṣāṃ saṃvaraḥ ārohati ityarthaḥ|| (616) na tatīyasyāṃ parivṛttau vyaṃjanasya|| saṃvarasya na kṣetratvamityanubandhaḥ|| yasya trir-vyaṃjanaṃ parivartate, na tasya saṃvaro rohatītyarthaḥ|| (617) na prathamadvayoḥ dvastiriti|| na prathamadvitīyayoḥ vyaṃjanaparivṛtyoḥ dhvaṃsaḥ saṃvarasyetyarthaḥ| kṣudrakebhyaḥ etadvidhidvayaṃ sādṛśyād hṛṣṭam|| (618) utthānaṃ gṛhyamāṇatve|| samādīyamānatve vyaṃjanaparivṛttau satyāṃ utthānaṃ saṃvarasya|| "upasaṃpadāpekṣiṇo vyaṃjanaṃ parivartate-upasaṃpanno vaktavyo'nupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ|| āha-anupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ|| bhikṣubhyo hi bhikṣuṇyā upasaṃpadā bhikṣuṇībhāvaḥ paryeṣitavyaḥ" iti atra granthaḥ|| nidarśanamatra puruṣasyavyañjanaparivṛttiḥ| nirāśaṅka-taratvāt anyatvamatra vidheḥ| upasaṃpadyamānāvastho'tra upasaṃpatprekṣī gṛhītaḥ, prākparivṛtto bhikṣumātrasaṃnipātasya ayogāt|| (619) anupādhyāyakatāyāṃ tadvataḥ|| tadvataḥ iti upādhyāyavataḥ| saṃvarasya vinā'pi upādhyāyena bhavati utthānam|| (620) anupasaṃpannatve'sya|| upādhyāyasyopa saṃpannatve'pi upādhyāyavataḥ saṃvarasya bhavatyutthānam?-|| (621) na, jānāne'sya abhikṣutvam|| na utthānaṃ upādhyāyavataḥ saṃvarasya jānāne samādātari asyopādhyāyasya abhikṣutvaṃ anupasaṃpannatvaṃ dhvastatāṃ vā| grantho'tra-'upasaṃpadāpekṣī stainyasaṃvāsikena upādhyāyena upasaṃpādyate, upasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ, anupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ?-| āha-yadi jānīte stainyasaṃvāsiko me upādhyāyaḥ ityanupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ|yadi na jānāti, upasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ|| evaṃ pūrvāpannakena upādhyāyena"........ityādi|||| ādivyagrakeṇāgārikeṇa upādhyāyeneti| nanu ca anupādhyāyatve'pi saṃvarasyotthānam, tatkathaṃ jānāne asyā'bhikṣutvaṃ na bhavati, yasmāt vipanno jānā[tī] tyāśayo bhavati, śīle'nāhato bhavati, anartho vā śīlena ityataḥ etadutthānam [iti cet, tanna]| nājānāti anupādhyāyatāṃ yāvat, tasmāt avirodho'tra anutthānasya|| yattu upādhyāyasya anupasaṃpannatve saṃvarasya utthānamuktaṃ saṃghamadhikṛtya etad, saṃghasyānupasaṃpannatāṃ jānānena bhavati utthānaṃ, na upasaṃpatprekṣī [itī]|| (622) nainaṃ pratyācakṣaṇe|| saṃvaramukhatvāt upādhyāyasya tad-pratyācakṣaṇe nāsti saṃvarasya utthānam|| grantho'tra-upasaṃpadyamānaḥ upādyāyaṃ pratyākhyātaṃ upasaṃpanno vaktavyo'nupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ?-āha-anupasaṃpanno vakta[vya] iti|| (623) na anayoḥ nāma-anudbhāvane|| anayoḥ kṣetropādhyāyoḥ samādātrā [karma] kārakeṇa vā nāmānutkīrtane na bhavati saṃvarasya utthānam|| (624) na saṃghasya tadyoneḥ|| samādātṛ-karmakārakābhyāṃ anyatareṇā'pi saṃghasya nāmno'nudbhāvane, tadyoneḥ, saṃghayoneḥ, tadvaṃśasya, saṃvarasya na bhavatyutthānam|| grantho'tra-"samādātāraṃ prati trayaḥ pudgalāḥ anupasaṃpannāḥ, ātmano nāma na ācaṣṭe, upādhyāyasya nāma nācaṣṭe, upasaṃpadaṃ ca na jānāti" iti|karmakārakaṃ prati ayaṃ granthaḥ -"trayāṇāṃ nāma na parikīrtayati-upādhyāyasya, upasaṃpadāprekṣinaḥ, saṃghasya ca| upasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ, anupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ iti| [āha-anupasaṃpanno vaktavya iti]| apratyupasthāpanametad, gṛhītṛtvena yadatra samādātuḥ ātmano nāmā'nukīrtanam | saṃghasyaitad pratyupasthāpanam | anugṛhītatvena yat saṃghasyā nena nāmānudbhāvanam| yad karmakārakeṇa samādātuḥ tadviṣayatvasya upanīteḥ tadakaraṇam| yatsaṃghasya saṃghakartṛkatvasya upanīteḥ tadkaraṇam| yadupādhyāyasya karmakārakeṇa nāmā'nudbhāvanaṃ, tadapi saṃghakartṛkatvasyaiva upanīteḥ akaraṇam| yasmāt yatra karmaṇi tatra saṃghasya kartṛtvapratipattiḥ, tato'nyasya tatkarmaṇaḥ karaṇam| yadupādhyāyasya samādātrā nāmānudbhāvanaṃ, tad yasya karmaṇaḥ karaṇaṃ sopādhyāyakasya, na tatra tasya viṣayatvena pratyupasthānam| tadanutthānaṃ eṣāṃ nāmānudbhāvane saṃvarasya|| (625) na'gārika-tīrthikadhvaje|| pratyekaṃ dhvajaśabdasya parisamāptiḥ| āgārikadhvaje tīrthikadhvaje iti bahuvrīhiścātra samāsaḥ| āgārikadhvajo dhvajo yasya, tīrthikadhvajo dhvajo yasya| ābhyāṃ dhvajābhyāṃ gṛhītābhyāṃ na bhavati saṃvarasyotthānam| veṣaścātra dhvajaḥ|| (626) na nagnakupita puphālinīṣu|| saṃvarasyotthānaṃ ityanuṣaṅgaḥ| samādānato nagnībhūtasya tīrthikadhvajaḥ iti anenaiva saṃgrahāt| anyārthaṃ nagnagrahaṇam, pramuktapragrahatvaṃ asyāmavasthāyāṃ cittasya iti saṃvarasyānutthānam| kupitatve sthairyabhaṅgaḥ| puṃphāliṇīṃ tāvatā bhadantā upasaṃpādayanti, upasaṃpannā vaktavyā atha anupasaṃpannā? [āha]-anupasaṃpannā vaktavyā| upasaṃpādakāśca sātisārā iti| puṃphālinī puraḥ yatsaṃyogāt puruṣo mriyate|| (627) na nimittaviparyayā'nabhyupetau utkṣiptakasya|| sa-dṛṣṭeḥ virati āśayasya saṃvarasaṃpattiḥ, tasmāt yena nimittena āpattyadarśanādinā-utkṣepaṇīyaṃ karmakṛtaṃ bhavati, tadviparyaya-anabhyupagame nāṣti saṃvarasya utthānam| nidarśanamatra utkṣiptakaḥ| sarvapraṇihiteṣu eṣa vidhiḥ| kalahakaraṇādi-āśayasyāpi avirati-āśayatvāt|| (628) duṣkṛtamātrakaṃ apūrva-parvatāyām| vinā upāsakatvena śrāmaṇeratvopagatau, vinā śrāmaṇeratvena bhikṣutvopagatau duṣkṛtamātrakaṃ bhavati, na anutthānaṃ saṃvarasya|| grantho'tra- "āgārika-apravrajitakaṃ upasaṃpādayanti, upasaṃpanno vaktavyo'nupasaṃpanno vaktavya ityāha-'upasaṃpannaḥ, upālin, upasaṃpādakāśca āpadyante duṣkṛtā [patti]miti"|| (629-630) ayāñcāyāmupādhyāyasya antarāyikayā'praśne|| ubhayatra atra duskṛtamātrakam, na anutthānaṃ saṃvarasyetyanuṣaraṅgaḥ|| (631) pratijñāne'sya asato dāne|| asato iti asaṃvidyamānasya, samādātra antarāyikasya 'asti me'ntarāyikam' iti pratijñāne saṃvarasya dāne duṣkṛtamāṭrakaṃ, na anutthānam|| nidāneṣvatra granthaḥ-"antarāyikaiḥ tāvat bhadanta dharmaiḥ samanvāgatam, 'samanvāgato'sti'iti vadantaṃ upasaṃpādayanti| upasaṃpanno vaktavyo'nupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ, āha-'upasampannaḥ' upasaṃpādakāstu sātisārāḥ" iti| tad atra antarāyikaṃ abhipretaṃ vyavatiṣṭhate, yadvidhe tu ahamupasaṃpannaḥ|| (632) na puruṣānukṛtitvaṃ striyā, strya nakṛtitvaṃ ca puruṣasya vyaṃjanāntaraprakāraḥ|| nātra anutthānaṃ saṃvarasya, etatpradarśanaṃ-vyañjanāntarasya prakāratvāt atrotthānaṃ na syāt| na caitadeṣa bhavati-||
(b) ākṣiptatvam||
(633) ākṣiptatvamasya hastacchinnādinā| asya puruṣasya anukṛtitvasya hastacchinnāḥ pādacchinnā ityādinā ākṣiptatvam, ākṣiptatvācca duṣkṛtāmā[trami]tyuktaṃ bhavati|| (634) pāpalakṣaṇa-bhinnakalpadvīpāntarajayoḥ|| anayorapi hastacchinnādinā ākṣiptatvamityarthaḥ|| "pāpalakṣaṇaṃ upasaṃpādayanti" [iti] yāvadupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ| bhikṣavastu upasaṃpādakāḥ āpadyante duṣkṛtāmiti" pāpalakṣaṇe granthaḥ|| [nidāna]-dvīpāntarajo'pi granthaḥ-jambudvīpakā bhikṣavaḥ pūrvavidehakamupasaṃpādayanti, upasapanno vaktavyaḥ'.......... yāvad-'upasaṃpannaḥ, upālin'| 'upasaṃpadakāstu sātisārāḥ'| [iti] vistareṇa cakrapeyālaṃ karvatyam|| saṃsthāna-pramāṇa-daśābhedo manuṣyāṇāṃ yatra dvīpe tanmātravyudāśasavaraṃ atra dvīpagrahaṇaṃ vyavatiṣṭhate| etadatra bhinnakalpagrahaṇena viśeṣitamukhādibhedo'pi atra kalpabhedo'bhipretaḥ| evaṃ ca ekadvīpakānāmapi eṣa mukha-karṇaprāvaraṇādīnāṃ pratikṣiptatvaṃ veditavyam|| (635) ekanakha-samudralekha-pakṣahata-liṅgaśiro-gulmakeśa-antarbahirdvi-kubja-ṣaṭsahitā'naṅguli-pakṣma-nakula-kiṃpila-viparīta-milita-śikya-kaśmīlita-akṣākṣa-akṣiśāla-śantra-dardru-vicarcika-pīta-avadāta-rakta-nāḍīkarṇa-kaṇḍu-piṇḍa-sthūlakacchu-aṇḍalāṅgūlapraticchanna-mūḍha-ajihva-ekahastapāda-[ahastapāda]-nīlakeśa-hastyaśvaśvagomeṣamṛgamatsyāhi-dīrghabahuśīrṣa-tālakaṅṭhaśūleryāpathacchinnebhyaśca anābādhikānāṃ, glānena ca itareṣām|| ekanakhādīnāṃ ca adhuktānāṃ [hasta] chinnādinā ākṣiptatvaṃ, itaresāṃ tu ābādhikānāṃ, glānena 'mā'si glānaḥ' ityanena ākṣiptatvaṃ ityarthaḥ|| ekanakho, yasya ekameva nakham| samudralekho, yasya mudrāyuktamiva lekhaṃ śarīrāvayavaḥ| pakṣaheto, yasya ekaṃ pārśvaṃ śuṣkam| liṅgaśirā, yasya liṅgākāraṃ śiraḥ| gulmakeśo yasya vidūṣakasya ivā'ntarāgulmena avasthitāḥ keśāḥ| antarbahidvikubja iti pratyekaṃ kubjaśabdasya parisamāptiḥ, antaḥ kubjo bahīḥ kubjaḥ antarbahiḥ kubja iti, uktametad anyatra-'kāṇaḥ, kuṇiḥ,kubjo'tha, vāma' iti, prabhedasaṃdarśanārthaṃ tvetad| ṣaṭ-sahitā'naṅguli[riti] aṅguliśabdasya pratyekaṃ parisamāptiḥ| ṣaḍṅguliḥ sahitāṅguliḥ anaṅguliśceti | ṣḍaṅgulitvaṃ, sahitāṅgulitvaṃ, (anaṅgu)litvamātrakam | aṅguliphaṇāhastakatvenā'tra saktāṅgulitvasya antarbhāvaḥ| pakṣma-nakula-kiṃpila-viparīta-milita-śikya-kaśmīlita-akṣākṣa-iti akṣaśabdasya pratyeka samāptiḥ-pakṣamākṣaḥ, nakulākṣaḥ, kiṃpilākṣaḥ, viparītākṣaḥ, militākṣaḥ, śikyākṣaḥ, kaśmīlitākṣaḥ, akṣākṣaḥ| pakṣmākṣo, yasya akṣṇo'ntaḥ carmapuṭe pakṣmasaṃbhavaḥ| [nakulākṣaḥ yasya akṣaḥ nakulākṣavat|] ulūkākṣaḥ kiṃpilākṣo [kapilākṣākṣatvāt] rakṣākṣaḥ sadṛśākṣo vā| apāṅgasamīpavarti yo akṣyavayavaḥ sa yasya nāsāsamīpe, tatsamīpavarti ca apāṅgaṃ sametya, asau viparītākṣaḥ| yasya vigatanāsāvaṃśe parasparaṃ akṣiṇī-saṃśleṣṭe, asau militākṣaḥ| śikyākṣo, yasya śikyavat atilaṃbite akṣiṇī| galitapakṣmaromatvāt vigaladraktamāsavat akṣṇaḥ paryanto yasya asau kaśmīlitākṣaḥ| akṣākṣaḥ iti akṣayoḥ akṣiṇī yasya asau akṣākṣaḥ| akṣiśāla-śantra dardru-vicarcikā iti akṣiśabdasya pratyekaṃ nipātaḥ| akṣiśālaḥ, akṣiśantraḥ, akṣidardruḥ akṣivicarcikā| ativiśāle yasya akṣiṇī asau viśālākṣaḥ|| pītāvadātaraktanāḍīkarṇa iti karṇaśabdasya pratyekaṃ nipātaḥ-pītakarṇaḥ, avadānakarṇa, raktakarṇaḥ, nāḍīkarṇa iti|| kaṇḍu-piṇḍa-sthūlakacchuriti kacchuśabdasya pratyekaṃ saṃbandhaḥ-kaṇḍukacchuḥ, piṇḍakacchuḥ, sthūlakacchuriti|| aṇḍalāṅgulapraticchanna iti aṇḍābhyāṃ lāṅgūlaḥ praticchannaḥ asya iti aṇḍalāṅgūlapraticchanna iti aṇḍābhyāṃ lāṅgūlaḥ praticchannaḥ asya iti aṇḍalāṅgūlapraticchanaḥ|| mūḍha-ajihva-ekahastapāda iti, mūḍha ityanena upasaṃpadaṃ na jānātītyasya saṃgṛhītatvam|| ajihva iti [jihvāhī] nasya| mūkavadhira iti mūkagraḥaṇena satyāṃ jihvāyāṃ vaktumasamarthaḥ jihvāhīnaḥ, anyasya ajihva iti uktatvāt|| [ekahastapādaḥ iti ekaśabdasya] hastapādaśabdayoḥ pratyekaṃ saṃbandhaḥ- ekahastaḥ, ekapādaḥ, ahastapāda iti|| nīlakeśa iti aharitabhūtaṃ nīlaṃ, tasmāt haritagrahaṇena nīlasyoktatvam|| hasti-aśva-śva-go-meṣa-mṛga-matsya-ahi-dīrgha-bahuśīrṣa iti śīrṣaśabdasya pratyekaṃ abhisaṃbaṃdhaḥ-hastiśīrṣaḥ aśvaśīrṣaḥ, śvaśīrṣo, gośīrṣaḥ, meṣaśīrṣaḥ, mṛgaśīrṣaḥ, matsyaśīrṣaṃḥ, ahiśīrṣaḥ, dīrghaśīrṣa, bahuśīrṣaḥ iti| 'sarvanīlaḥ sarvapītaḥ sarvalohitaḥ sarvāvadāta' iti etadapi yatpaṭhyate, eṣāmapi caturbhiḥ bhūtaṃ chavi-varṇaiḥ ityuktatvam|| tālakaṇṭha[vat-śūla-] śūlacchinna-īryāpathacchinna iti|| (636) caureṇa dasyoḥ|| ākṣiptatvamiti anuṣaṅgaḥ| pāpavṛttirūpatā sāmānyena| nanu naiva asya ataḥ pṛthaktvam?-bhavani hi adasyubhūto'pi cauraḥ saghṛṇaḥ paraharaṇaḥ, sarveṇa sarvaṃ yadbhūyasā yasya vā abhiprāṇātipātapravarttā| dasyuśca acaurabhūtaḥ nirghṛṇo vadhyaghātakādiḥ| tasmāt pṛthaktvamevāsya bhavati||
(c) anujñā
(637) pitṛ-vat pitrāśayatve anujñāyāṃ rājā|| pitrāśayatvena rājñā'nujñātaḥ pitṛbhyāmevānujñāto draṣṭavyaḥ| rājānujñayā pravrājite [adoṣo] draṣṭavyaḥ iti bhāvaḥ|| (638) parigṛhītroḥ anujñāna-dhāraṇā-ārocaneṣu pitṛtvam|| asatyapi janakatve mātāpitṛparigraheṇa avasthitayoḥ anujñāne saptāhadhāraṇe saṃghe ca ārocane [mātā-] pitṛtvaṃ, na janakayoreva parigṛhītṛtvena avasthitayoḥ ityarthaḥ| "putrakṛtakaṃ tāvat, bhadanta, upasaṃpādayanti, kasya sakāśā[dava]sāritavyaḥ?-yasya putratvamupagataḥ, evaṃ dhītikṛtikā yasya dhītitvaṃ upagatikā"-ityatra granthaḥ|| (639) na amanuṣyagatikayoḥ|| anujñānadhāraṇā'rocaneṣu pitṛtvaṃ ityanuṣaṅgaḥ|| "yasya tāvat, bhadanta, mātāpitarau kālagatu bhavataḥ, tiryagyonigatau vā, tasya keśāvaropaṇāya sarvasaṃgho'valokayitavyaḥ?-no hīdaṃ, upālin" ityatra granthaḥ|| (640) na ataḥ ānantaryotthāṇam|| amanuṣyagatikābhyāṃ pitṛbhyām ānantaryotthānam|| (641) janakābhyāmetad, parivṛttavyaṃjanābhyāmapi|| apuṃstvamapi mātṛgatātve'pi tuṣka strītvaṃ utthānamānantaryasya|| (642) etad-kṛtvaṃ mātṛghātakādau tattvam|| etatkṛtvaṃ ānantaryakṛtvaṃ, yad māṭṛghātakādeḥ pravrājanaṃ pratiṣiddhaṃ tatra ānantaryakṛtvaṃ tattu pratipattavyam| ānantaryakārī na pravrājyaḥ ityevaṃ puna stad| na sarvamātṛghāṭako na pravrājya ityevaṃ ca| tiryagyonigatamātṛghātakasya apratiṣiddhaṃ bhavati pravrājanam||

kasmin bhikṣuṇyāṃ kṛte bhikṣuṇīdūṣakatvaṃ jātaṃ bhavati, bhikṣuṇyā'pi bhikṣudūṣakatvaṃ bhavati, kenārthena etadubhayamityāha-|| (643) dūṣakatvaṃ abrahmacaryeṇa svādayatoḥ, aparājitatve|| "kiyatā, bhadanta, bhikṣuṇīdūṣako vaktavyaḥ? -yena abrahmacaryeṇa, [upālin], bhikṣuṇī dūṣitā bhavati" iti granthaḥ| kiṃ yattaccetasoḥ asyotthānamityāha?- svadayatoḥ| gamya'pi dūṣakatvasyosthānaṃ, gantaryapi ityasya saṃdarśanārthaṃ atra dvivacanam| no tu sahite pratiyogisvādanena dūṣakatvasya utthānam, ityasya na hi anya-pradoṣeṇa anyasya saṃbaṃdhaḥ, iti anaṅgatvaṃ atra pratiyogisvādasya| vītarāgadūṣaṇe ca dūṣakatvānutthānaprasaṃgāt| 'chandaśaḥ' iti yadvacanaṃ, eṣo'tra āgamaḥ| svecchayā ityasya arthaḥ| pārājitatve'pi bhikṣu-bhikṣuṇītvaṃ vidyate kim, tadavasthayoḥ nā'pyanayoḥ dūṣaṇe dūṣakatva mityatra āha- aparājitatve| grantho'tra -"aṣṭau tāvat, bhadanta, pudgalā pratyekavastubhīḥ bhikṣuṇīṃ dūṣayanti| duṣṭā sā bhikṣuṇī vaktavyā? duṣṭā, upālin, vaktavyā| katarāḥ tatra pudgalā bhikṣuṇī-dūṣakā vaktavyāḥ?-āha, na kaściditi| nipātane vā āmarṣaṇe vā aparājitatvaṃ bhikṣuṇyā iti hi etad adūṣakatva-vijñānam| kathaṃ tarhi ?-anyenārthena nipatitāyāṃ, nikubjayāṃ vā, asvīkurvatyāṃ, āmarṣaṇa-parāmarṣana-saṃpraveśane, nipātyāpi asvīkāre tayā nipātanasya| svayaṃ vā saṃspṛśantyā puruṣagātraṃ, puruṣasyopakrāntiḥ|| (644) arhatvaṃ pravrajyopasaṃpadoḥ upagatau puṃstvasya hīnāyāṃ yoṣiti|| śikṣāṃ pratyākhyāya hīnāyāṃ vṛttāyāṃ striyāṃ vyaṃjanaparivṛttyā puṃstvogatau arhatvaṃ pravrajyopasaṃpadoḥ| na-strītvāvasthāyāṃ iva anarhatvaṃ ityarthaḥ|| (645) asādhāraṇaṃ ca pārājayikaṃ adhyācaritavatyām|| 'arhatvaṃ pravrajyopasaṃpadoḥ upagatau puṃstvasya hīnāyāṃ yoṣiti'-ityanubandhaḥ|| (646) āvāsikānāṃ strīupasaṃpādane aṅgatvaṃ|| poṣadhavastu atra granthaḥ-"yaduktaṃ bhagavatā bhikṣuṇī bhiḥ bhikṣūṇāmantike bhikṣuṇībhāvaḥ paryeṣitavyaḥ iti katamesāṃ bhikṣūṇāṃ āvāsika-naivāsikānāṃ, upālin", iti| tatsthānagatā vāsasthaṃ bhikṣusaṃghaṃ upaniśritya bhikṣuṇīnāṃ vāsaḥ| tataḥ kālena kālaṃ avavāda-anuśāsanīmārgaṇāt, na ca niśrayātikramo yuktaḥ ityetad vijñānam| āvāsikatvamevātra viropitataratvena viśiṣyamāṇaṃ naivāsikatvaṃ vyavatiṣṭhate|| (647) dhvaṃso bhavatvasya [utsṛ]ṣṭau|| bhavadbhāvye bhavatvaṃ jāyamānatvamityarthaḥ| gṛhyamāṇe saṃvare tasya saṃvarasya yadbhavatvaṃ tasya tadavasthasya utsṛṣṭau pratyākhyānādinā utsarge dhvaṃso bhavati| āvedha eṣa saṃvarasya yajjāyamānatvam| na ca āneghasya pratyudāvṛttiḥ laṅghanādau dṛśyate| tasmāt, na bhavatyasyā'jāyamānatve saṃvarasya pratyudāvṛttiḥ iti yo manyeta tannābhinivṛttyartha etatsūtram| muktakeṣu atra granthaḥ--"upasaṃpannastābat, upālin, gṛhitvaṃ pratijānāno anupasaṃpanno vaktavyaḥ| prāgeva upasaṃpadya māna iti|| pṛcchā prāyaṃ pravrajyāvastugatam||
